Sunday trip...

D-nymph Raz and I hit up some tailwaters on Sunday
A little day trip to scratch the itch
no one got the skunk and all made it back alive

The river had been running at 500 to 330cfs for some time and dipped down to 120 on friday. The river is no one easily waded... slick bowling balls in a swift current make for some tricky situations... even at reduced flows. At one point I heard a hoot and look upstream expecting to see a hooked fish... instead seeing D-nymph saving himself from the digger. Not going to lie, I put it down more than both of them combined. The river holds some of the larger wild brookies in the area and some of the prettiest bowns.... but don't expect to see them here. We all had shots, but came up short and resorted to rock skipping, beer drinking, or taking pictures of rocks.

Beautiful day and it was good to be out

Leaving early with my batteries charged

we hit an upper section and walk down to the firt bridge
yeah... this sign is true
later in the day I even used the 7x... and promptly broke off

like the 3 stooges, we bumbled our way up stream to the car
slipping, falling, missing fish, but landing a few

nice colorful brookies... but selective
i'm guessing the undersides get rubbed on rocks??

made it back to the car
drank some beers and BSed for a bit and then it was off to another close river
this one was also lower than usual
I spent my time hooking trees, undoing tangles, and falling in the water
Raz got one and D-nymph saw a steelhead
D-nymph in need of a good low-holing

We bounced back down in hopes of some evening risers
D-nymph went high, Raz and I worked low
more pocket water with nice little glides
sun would peak out for a sec

fooled a pretty dink brown with some nice colors (shtty pic while fumbling in the current)
Fish were looking up... literally... I saw one pretty much sitting vertical in the water column
it wanted nothing I had
So i took pictures of rocks

no matter how bad you have it... it can always be worse
don't be afraid to ask for help
internet fishing sites are a great place to blow off stream/ joke/ digg on each other... but we are all similar
we all enjoy the same basic things... methods may differ, but we all love to get out

Late to the party as usual. I didn't take many pics, partly because I knew kjh would, partly because I only caught one brown trout that was camera shy, and partly because I was more focused on drinking beer, but ain't complaining.

    Razz kicking off the morning.

Here's the shot that apparently everyone who goes here takes.

The smaller of the two waters. It's a brawling little %$&@#.

I liked the big water River too, gorgeous and green...

But beware of the two handed flailing spey monster.

    sweet little run

Back on the small water, this is what kjh looks like when he's flinging fleas to every square inch of pocket water. If you ever fish with him, watch out. A fly can go in any direction to any spot on the river at any second without warning, like a random shotgun blast from the riot control police.

    Good times.

I can attest to KJH's work with a spey rod. Earlier this spring, he snapped off a 2/0 streamer into my forearm. It snapped the piano wire he was using, but the fly was stuck, barb-deep in my arm...

Ten minutes later I impaled my nose and cheek with a Yo-Zuri crystal minnow...

    It was a great day...
