fishing droppers

I've been into fishing these lately, tandem and tertiary.  Like to run a 12-14 cahill or drake(present in hatches), down a 1.5 feet to an emerger of some sort, down 2.5 more feet to a GHE or PT.  Of course, I do adjust these lenghts to the depth of the pool.  I've had luck under the water, but have yet to have a fish slurp the dry.  Is this fly just to add stablity and act as a strike indicator/attractor or have any of you experienced dudes got takes up top while running this setup?

edit: I failed to mention after removing the droppers, there was no problems getting risers

I'd guess its just the differing surface/subsurface currents messing up your drift, even so minutely that it may not be apparent. To get more action on top, you may want to try a caddis (which flutters & skitters anyway) or a parachute slate drake (the natural also creates a fuss when it hits the water). Both flies are also good floaters.

I started using parachute style dries as a strike indicator when it is clear and shallow, but ended up getting takes on the dry. That was a nice surprise.

using a dry on a dropper rig is more or less just a way of using an indicator that will not alert the fish you are chasing too much, while still providing them with the nymph below.  Dually, the option of a large, stimulator dry can induce a look, and when refused, the trout is met with the nymph when it turns down, chances are that's where your getting most of your strikes.  If you are fishing dries,  using a dropper off of it has it's advantages in that respect, but if you are looking for dry fly action stick with the single fly.

    Could be a few things.
I think to fish that kind of tandem, you have to decide if you're going to fish it as a dry or wet. When effectively fishing dries, drag occurs in a short distance with a few exceptions. Drag is not as critical fishing underneath so even though you may have drag with the dry, fish will still take a moving nymph or wet.
Another thing that may be happening is that after taking off the subsurface offerings, you are paying more attention to your dry fly presentation.
Or, if the whole tandem is drifting within reason, the fish may be preferring the easier meal.

    hahahaha holy crap!
