New traffic pattern

New traffic pattern at the walnut launch. Don't know the genius that figured it out but they eliminated about 1/3 of the parking lot

Some guy from Harrisburg, that hasn't ever been to the nut. Said it would solve all the traffic problems. Waiting for someone to drive into the ditch. He only wanted to put a10ft wide span over the ditch. They told him that wasn't big enough so he added 2ft. He also wanted to make the little boat ramp for canoe use only.

Thats the " VIP " ramp I use when I go to the nut. No waiting for other boats to put in and out. As Ive said before,"advantage small boat"
Canoe only my**** If there is a ramp and I can use it Im going to use it.

Okay, howbout a giant yellow raft? And I'll act like I'm going down the rapids at Ohiopyle, all flailing and thrashing around. Then I'll sell all the flies and lures I snag down at the wall. I'll be a floating vendor!

Typical PAFBC...  Good idea, bad execution.  Why they couldn't just flatten all those trees and lay down some asphalt is beyond me.  That whole area serves no purpose that I can see.  If that were the case then they could send all the launching traffic along the creek and then the basin.  Give a lot more room for people to line up on those crazy weekend mornings.

Try loading your boat and making the turn into the tie down area (old ready area). It isn't going to happen with a small boat, let alone a big one, and certainly not when it is busy and there are others using the north ramps. By the time my boat clears the ramps, my truck is well beyond the turn.

I'm in the wait and see mode right now. Not sure what prompted the change though, the old way worked fine. I didn't have any trouble making the turn into the old ready area, other than habit wanted me to go the other way, and my truck is almost as long as the boat and trailer.

What promted the change is the guys who dock their boats at Walnut not being able to get the their boats on Saturday morning because the launch was backed up to route 5 and they thought it would be a good idea to get down there at 7am.

So over 30 or so boats under 23ft stored in their joke of a facility they reconfigured the whole thing...

This is why I launch at 4am....

Now I don't own a boat so not to familar, but IMO If i waited in line and it was my turn, I would not run around trying to beat my PR in launching at Nut.  i would take my time to make sure that my equipment was safely and successfully launched and tied down before i drove away.  I really wouldn't care if it ****ed someone off.  But if i had that much money into something, I would want to make sure it was safe.

What they should do is hire someone to direct launch traffic from like 5am-9am on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays... Heck, I'll do it. lol

Its not a motto...its just the best way if you want to be at peace in the morning and get on the early bite.

Southside launch in PGH was fine then engineers screwed it up with grant money that would be better used elsewhere.

The 3 rows at the prep area make for less chaos and back-up to the road IMO, but they certainly didn't have much room to work with.  Now having a tie-down area makes more sense as well, instead of guys going to the parking lot to do so.  Give it a chance, it shouldn't be any worse than it was...better?  We will see.  One thing for sure though, people STILL do not know how to use the courtesy dock and continue to crowd up the launch area loading and unloading.  I had to go around two boats last weekend causing me to load my boat at a wierd angle....Had to back the boat off and straighten her out thanks to the ignorance and lack of some having a little patience.

So happy to have a dock, No more of dealing with this crap! Although it wasn't that bad down there for me at 5:00 am. Not much traffic at 1 or 2 pm coming back unless there were storms coming. I can't see how this new design is better from what I see on paper but give it a chance it probably will work. I would have hated having a boat at a dock there and waiting in line to get to the dock to go fishing. Some of the lines took over an hour. (found this out when I slept in!). Everyone should go to Conneaut and hang out with CB the fishing is better over there. LOL! Hope to find some eyes this saturday. Will post a report monday.

I think coming in it will make for less of a hassle, but the turn into the old ready area/new tie down area is tight and will be even tighter coming from the far lanes when busy coming out. Most people so far this year have just been pulling up and tieing down on the way out, but Sherry was out yelling at people last weekend. Should be entertaining once the eyes heat up.

Oh yeah....CB is right...launch before 6 a.m. and you'll have no problems down there....I just fear coming into that place in the event of inclement weather.  Thats why most of my shove offs will be out of Conny!

goes back to an old saying.... dont fix what isnt broken....  it might work better but i duno. all they needed to do was make more parking... personally think all they did was complicate things.  yellow lines, arrows, and signs all over the place now... cant wait till eyes are really slammn and that place is a complete traffic mess cause thats whats it gona become
