Caroga

Anybody ever fish Caroga Lake? I'll be up there for the 4th of july weekend. Also, they say that the boat launch is small, anybody know what they mean. Is it too small to launch or too small due to the depth?????

State launch at the camp grounds is shallow. Like really shallow. We launched a 14ft crestline with a 40 hp had to walk it out and back in about 50 yards. There is a private launch on the channel that connects the 2 lakes (east and west). If you turn off 29A onto RT.10 it should be just over the bridge that goes over the channel. I want to say there is one of those big bear carvings in the front yard but it was a couple of years ago. They did have a sign. As for fishing we didn't have much luck trolling West Caroga for splake but someone my buddy knew that has a camp there said they catch some descend splake in there. As far as I know East Caroga is shallow for the most part and the main fishing is done in West Caroga. East is said to have descend smallies and I know the pannies are good sized I caught a Pumpkinseed on a spinner that had to weight a pound and a half. Well that's all I got, hope it helps.

caroga is okay, east for smallies and west for splake and maybe a walleye, but their aren't many eyes, you will be close to some other lakes like canada green, caroga is okay, but you are close to some much better fishing.

Most of the lakes up there are noted as trout lakes and this time of year isn't the best for trout, east caroga does have good bass, and there are a few other decent bass lakes up their. Drive north on 10 for about a half hour and you pass a handfull of lakes, take your pick. piseco is about half hour to 45 minutes north, bigger lake, trout, lakers and great smallies. Do a little exploring or study a map most of the lakes up their have the same species of fish just a matter of what your after.
