Tires

Guys I need your help. I want to purchase some great land(over 50 acres) to hunt AND improve. Problem is it has 400 tires on the property. Does anyone know anyone that could help me get rid of these tires legally? Maybe a dump or recycling company?  I am going to start calling DEP,DCNR, and the local land fill. Land is located in NW Pa.    Thanks!

Your local municapality should be able to tell you who takes tires.  There's a place here locally that takes them and cuts them up.  It's probably going to cost you.  Maybe $2 or so a tire.  With the way the ecomony is, maybe you could ask the current landowner to clean the place up or no deal ?   Guess it might depend on how bad they want rid of the property, need money, and how marketable the property is.   Could offer them more money to clear it up ?  Best of luck with that.

That sucks.  It's going to cost to get them moved and taken.   Maybe get a cost estimate then include it in your offer ?  Explain why you're only offering say 98,000 instead of 100,000, for example.  I don't know..

I would have to ask why there are 400 tires on the property, the answer may change your mind on the property. There could be more hidden "treasures". The last thing you need is to find out after you own it that there are a few underground storage tanks that need disposed of, oh and by the way 2 of them are leaking and you'll have to pay a couple hundred thousand to clean it up. When you buy the property, you buy the environmental issues as well. The tires themselves wouldn't bother me, just haul a few loads every weekend and they'll be gone in a few months. Good luck!

Bull, I completely agree with you. The going rate for old tires is 200 bucks a ton per DEP(about 100 car tires). Trouble is finding someone to pickup and haul them away. I am being VERY careful with this deal before I bid on it. I am not worried about gathering the tires, just hoping thats the only problem I have to solve.

sounds like a property inspector, lawyer, and/or surveyor would be a good investment about now. You need to take a good look around to check for recent or semi recent digging, any type of dumping, etc. Factor that into the pricing for sure.

I didn't think you could sell 'as is'. I guess it is very different for land versus land with a house.

    Thanks

400 tires that has to be Mosquito heaven...
You could possibly contact some of the larger farms as some of them cover their silo pit tarps with tires....

    Caveat emptor!

That being said - I've been utilizing old tires to plant a garden. Helps with weeding, pest control, etc. Find a market - sell them!

put a contingency in the sales agreement that any enviromental issue after the tires will be
the responsibility of the seller to make any and all improvements in a certain amount of time
and any and all repairs on these issues have to meet state and federal guide lines dcnr (ect)

find a local environmental group looking for a cleanup project, the tires they clean up are usually disposed of free.

start by stacking one, then fill it with sawdust, then potato eyes, and repeat. You'll have one hell of a supply of potatoes, lol.
I know recycling places charge like 2 bucks a tire, which isnt bad. 400 tires =  $800 bucks and some work. Figure that into your bid.
If they are on rims, sometimes it pays off. A local junkman where I live had pile of tires and rims about 1/4 mile long and 30' tall. He rented a 3 jawed rim crusher, 2 hugh dumpsters, then payed a friend of mine $10hr to sepatate the rims n tires. I dont know the exact numbers but I know he made money and got rid of his pile.
