Scouting for Herring

Messed around at the HH park for 1/2 hour looking for Herring. Didn't see any of them but had a nice 30"+ pike follow it right up close and hang out for a minute, just wouldn't take it. Water clearity is really good.

like I said I was forced to come home tonight but stopped at the S..... Creek for a look. Nothing NADA.. at low tide you would for sure see herring.  I used to throw a casting net here and have my fill in 2 casts when I cared to fish. But this is what I seen tonight:

I am anxious to hear of them being caught on the Sabikis...  Hopefully this weekend?

Once they start coming up three at a time I can validate the early wake-up to get out there this Spring!

So far there have been no events (unusual warm or cold, flooding, etc) to keep any of those cows from coming all the way up to Troy, I hope!  It seems there is ALWAYS 'something'.  Warms too fast and big fish don't even passt Kingston...  Or huge floods make fishing tough and water filthy...  SOMETHING.

But (knock on wood) so far 2009 is looking about as "average" as it gets and hopefully the fishing will explode!

All the herring you can handle, my man!!!

If this season is anything like the last two have been for me on the Striper-front than I am going to have to invest in some Photoshop software and swipe a few of Ship or Brian's photos from last year!

I am chasing some Steelhead this weekend, then some northern trout on Sunday...  But next week I plan to be out there a few evenings after work around Rensselaer...  Hopefully it will be "Sabiki-licous" by then.

I am hoping you guys find some BIG 'UNS this weekend!
