alaska beads

has any one fished the beads in alaska, I found
a lot of information on size, color, & how to fish
them but I can not find info on what size of hooks
to fish with them, I am talking about fishing the bead
by itself not in front of wooley boogers or flesh flies
& all of the other patterns for alaska

    I saw a good show on that once. They were fishing beads and they would put the bead on the line about two or three inches above the hook and hold the bead there with a piece of toothpick. They said that when the big bows take these egg imitations they take them so aggressively that they swallow them almost immediately. The bead above the hook rig helps to hook the fish in the lips and not the throat. They were fishing red and pink beads and it looked like they were using about a size 12 hook. Sorry I can't remember the name of the show.
