A statewide effort being launched this week urges people not to flush leftover medications down the toilet.
The campaign was launched in response to reports that an array of medicines are showing up in rivers, lakes, and drinking water supplies of many cities. While the amounts are small, studies have found negative impacts on aquatic life.

The campaign is part of the Drug Management and Disposal Act signed into law by Gov. David Paterson last year
