Any pike in 2nd like there (suposedly) is in 3rd?  I am all over continuing my streak of chasing them on streamers right at ice-out.  I did it all Spring two seasons ago up north and loved it.  I slacked a little last year because I stayed so close to home chasing Stripers every weekend and a lot of evenings after work.

This year I am splitting my time.  A few early morning (ugh) Striper trips before work with Ship, some weekend jaunts with some of you guys, and a whole lot of weekends deep in the ADKs with the new ultralight canoe and the new girlfriend.  Lots of bunny-strip streamers at the ready.  Just like Stripers, the real 'window' of opportunity to target shallow, aggressive water pike comes for those few weeks after ice out.  It is a great way to pass the time as you wait for the trout streams to slow to a fishable level during runoff.

Perhaps I was referring to the new lightweight canoe...

Or the wicked sweet new tackle bag I bought out at Bass Pro in Auburn this weekend...

The boat is getting uncovered this week as soon as the rain stops, and I am going to start the terrifying (and usually expensive) process of getting her running and ready for April and the long openwater season ahead.

If I've learned ONE THING from all you married stiffs, it's that I can't afford a girlfriend AND a boat at the same time.  But sometimes you can't enjoy one without the other when the weather is nice and the fishing is slow.

Heck, if she can spilt the gas money and cook a good breakfast then maybe I could use some company

I am game for that Perch. I'm a poor married stiff with a kid going to college and another in braces ...therefore, no boat.   Thats why I beg for rides on striper boats like a dog.  I jump on a fishin trip for whatever i can whenever I can .

Snyders is wide open...  Nice to see water again without having to look thru a 5" hole

I am going to rebuild my crushed dock supports this afternoon and drop the dock back in tomorrow.

I am hoping to get out in the boat at some point today if I can, and move some of that blowdown wood on the shoreline into a nice and neat pile in about 15ft of water within casting distance.  I figure it's best to move it as soon as I can before all the crappie come into those weedbeds to spawn.

Plus, I need someplace to swim and those trees are more useful to bass than to me...

Don't worry Perch, I am leaving one whole tree in place where you had the camera thru the ice.  That one is pretty far out of the way but still within reach with the ultralight and those 1/16oz Panfish Assassins...

    Those things are wicked...

blitz42, Sorry didn't get back to you about how I do IT!!  I use 1.5" tub jigs 1/32 to 1/64 oz. heads, color- cottoncandy/clear sparkles/smoke sparkle!! I some times put some doc juice on them for thev smell or a small hunk of worm or if have any spikes from ice fishing try them with a float with a red/green small ice jig!! Keep the jigs moving /drift or trolling works well!!

Blitz- I will definately let you know when the Crappie show up...  I assume the water is a little too chilly yet for casting for them, but minnows under a float would probably do the trick...

I would think the water will warm relatively quickly now that the ice is gone and the sun can hit it for longer hours each day for the next few weeks.  Last year I was slamming them by mid-April and I hope this year is even sooner.

From the looks of your photo- it appears you found one of those big Northerns huh?  What a MONSTER!!!

    AWESOME!!!

Crappies can be had later in the afternoon we find them on the same side as kay's down a bit by that weeping wellow tree, troll on the same side down and make the turn into the left(not right) bay they seem to hang right on that turn!! The warmer afternoons are better!! I only fish 2nd lake this time of year!!
