Please Identify

While walking on the beach down at presque isle My dog found a foot long "creature"
It had been dead for quite some time so there was no real color left in it. It had 2 front arms/legs, and 2 back legs/arms.  It had a large shovel shaped head. The tail looked like that of an eel, long and tapered. I took 3 pics on my cell phone but can only email them, dont know how to post them from my phone. It is like a super knewt/salamander or something. If anyone knows what this is let me know, just curious.

I would agree with muskie51, a hellbender.  I have heard about these type of creatures in French Creek, although I have never seen one, but the descriptions I have been told sound exactly like what you are talking about.  Try this link:

French creek has plenty of Hellbenders in it. Have caught my fair share of them over the years. Shenago river between Pymatuning lake and Shenago lake has them as well.

Thanks all! KJH807, with your above link someone else found an almost identical "creature" and posted a pic, which is exactly what I found, and the poster also stated that he found it at preqsue isle.
Not a hellbender because the tail that i saw runs vertical, not horizontal like the hellbender.
Thanks again to all who responded. I wasnt sure what the heck this thing was washed up on shore, sure is weird looking!

    Eastern Hellbender
    Cryptobranchus alleganiensis alleganiensis
The hellbender is more commonly gray, but some specimens could be an olive-brown to almost black above. Some dark mottling over the back and upper sides is also possible. The belly is lighter. Though not always present, irregular, scattered black spots sometimes pepper the back and sides. The body and head are flattened. Several loose flaps of thick, wrinkled skin hang along the lower sides. The legs are short and stout with four toes on the hindlegs. The tail is flat and rudderlike.

    Mudpuppy
    Necturus maculosus maculosus
The mudpuppy is also known as a waterdog. The most striking characteristic of this salamander other than its size, or perhaps because of it, is the large feathery set of reddish gills billowing out from behind each side of the head. The legs are short but strong. The tail fin is occasionally tinted orange or red. Its small eyes have no eyelids. There are four toes on the front and hind feet. Most salamanders have five toes on the rear pair of feet. The mudpuppy, or waterdog, is gray to rusty brown on the upper surfaces, which also are showered with dark blue-black spots. The spots have irregular edges and are well-separated from one another. The pale belly is usually gray and is accented with dark spots. A dark stripe runs through each eye. Fifteen or 16 costal grooves mark each side.

Caught a 26" hellbender on Frenchy several years ago in Saegertown. Have seen them over 30" caught on turtle lines there.

That sure would freak me out seeing one of those crawl up on shore while standing on the bank of the creek.
