Yeah in Somerset, this is my first time going to either one of these creeks, I heard that Bobs Creek and Bens Creek had some good native fishing at the head waters but I didnt know if that was for real or not.  I dont really feel like fishing by a ton of guys so I dont mind the walk upstream if its worth going.

I haven't been to either since spring.  But they are pretty high elevations.  Bob's drains off a ski resort, Blue Knob.  So, you can expect them to be frozen, in my opinion.

I agree that if those two streams can get old if you fish them constantly, I did just that for a few years. But, I am not sure about that not much size thing though. They surely aren't filled with big trout, but I have taken more than a handful of large browns out of those streams, in particular one stream. Not April pelletheads either.

Bens creek gets alot of trout in the spring,,natives are few and far between from what I see and I'm there alot. As far as big trout go, they're caught pretty much all over the creek.

btw,,even big trout caught in the winter in bens creek are still spring pelletheads. not that i mind.

Good to hear that.  There are some big, multiyear holdovers in those streams. Often times though, they are very long with a large head, and almost no body.

I didn't mean they weren't there, I ment that they are probably gone from people taking them, I've caught them there too, last winter every time I went I caught 1 over 18.

Yesterday, I went and it was locked up pretty good, my friends and I didnt stay long.

Guys- if you want to discuss specific places do so through pm. If these are small streams I certainly wouldn't discuss them out in the open. You may want to consider editing your own posts. Wild Trout are in enough trouble without the internet.
    Thanks.

I hear what your saying about Erie, there isn't much left to spotburn. But trust me, there is local spots all over PA that are underfished and have amazing fish. Period. And for the respect of the fish and anglers, internet spotburning is not necessary.

I would imagine Bens Creek is clear now with all this rain but the water will be high and muddy.I used to fish there all the time and like said above its not terribly big so you could cover a lot of ground in a solid day. I have caught natives roughly about 8 inches or so. A few years back there was that acid mine spill that messed up some places for a while but I think thats cleared up by now.

Trout, spot burning streams over the internet on private property is not ok (it is also against most every site's policy).  I am not saying that these guys are doing that in this case, as I don't know the stream.  My question is, does someone own those waters.  If they allow you to fish there and you choose to share that with others via private conversation or taking someone there, good for you.  However, when you put a small, privately owned stream (naming holes is even worse) on the internet you have just shared a stream with thousands of people on the internet.  We own a portion of a small brookie stream along with a dozen other land owners in NCPA.  This site specifically (and yes the owners are aware) spot burned that stream a few years back.  The traffic picked up immediately and so did the bad behavior.  Everyone of us posted the stream and now it is family only that fishes it.  That is a shame because it used to be open to everyone, we just asked that people not litter.  Unfortunately someone (such as yourself) could not keep such a beautiful place to yourself or a small group of others to treasure for years to come.  Instead, they went and published it to the world and effectively closed it to everyone.  It happens every year in more and more places.  How much property needs to be closed to the public before people such as yourself learn?  Just remember, landowner rights trump your fishing license.

no i agree with everyone who said something about spot burning, its dumb if its a public place, as for private i agree with you griffon and im new to the site, not fishing, so i didnt really know about "spot burning" but i do know about not giving up your favorite spot. as for these creeks the one is on state game lands so its open to everyone its not my land or anyone elses. plus im sick of getting **** from people on this site about spot buring, no one on this form did but on others, i said something about public land and i was called a spot burner, isnt this site just for people to talk about fishing? so if people dont want to share anything then dont log on and keep it to your self.

i don't consider naming a public stream "spot burning" if its in the book then everyone knows about it any ways.  i mean i no that creek like the back of my hand im not gonna be like there's a whole bunch at this spot now then they are gonna move to this spot

Bobs creek I'm not sure about, but I live minutes away from Bens creek and the whole creek is well known and heavily fished, with plenty to go around,,,,no spots left to burn. In the tons of fish we catch out of there each year maybe we catch one native at best a year. I couldn't say if it has a good population of them or not.

Ben's Creek along Old Somerset Pike has few natives but keeps stocked fish well. It is a shame all the Hemlocks that keep the stream cool in summer are getting that disease. Responsible fishermen should plant an occasional white pine near it's banks once in awhile.

At Bobs Creek it is more fun along to walk the bank and watch the fish. It is a true mountain stream and is absolutely beautiful. You can learn more about fishing by watching fish than trying to catch them.
