Archery Help

Hey all,
I need some help. I am new to archery and an going to buy a bow. My question is this. Where is the best place to go and get help selecting and setting up a bow in or around Mercer,PA? Anywhere in mercer or crawford county would be fine as I have no idea what I am doing and just need help with the whole process. I am looking to stay in the $400-$500 range for the whole package. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

I cant tell you where to go because I dont live around there but what I will tell you is, shoot as many different bows as possible before you buy one.  How a bow feels in your hand is way more important than the name on the limb, IMO.

I second ShootersShowcase. Never been there personally, but hear many good things from relatives and friends that deal with them. I havent had the need to go anywhere for archery for quite some time. I bought a used $75 jennings bow when I was 16 and it shoot so well and accurate that I havent been able to justify buying a new one. I believe shooters showcase has used bows also. My suggestion would be: Dont buy according to looks. Dont buy the biggest pound draw bow you can pull back. You should be able to pull back with ease (slowly without shaking and stuggling). A lot of guys get the tough guy mentality and get a bow that is too hard to practice with a draw when the heat is on. If you know what poundage of bow is suitable for you, look for a bow with the closest to that in max draw weight. Bows perform their best at their peak weight.
Check out this site, it has some good info on bow selection: http://www.huntersfriend.com/bowselection.htm
Good Luck and practice practice practice, then practice some more.

Thanks Guys, I appreciate the info. I am heading down to Shooter Showcase tomorrow to see what they have and can help me with. I have been wanting to do this now for 3 or 4 years and decided to dive in and see what I have been missing all these years. Again, I appreciate all the great info.
