Saturday 1-31. (pics)

Four of us started down low in the early morning and didn't fair to well.  There were a hand full of other guys out... and although we did infact see a few fish landed, it was nothing to get excited about.  We made a move around 9am and it was a great one.

Plenty of "doubles" and "triples" were had today, as well as "double digits".

Me with one of the first ones of the day.

Triple hook-up...

Another double...

My biggest of the day...

Great ice conditions btw, hope it sticks around for another couple weeks.

GREAT pics!  As it was stated above, looks like total carnage!  Ice fishing down here is not as ecxiting.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone!

We were on about 8 inchs of ice or so, maybe more.  We actualy werent that far from the mouth on this particular stream...

Hope the ice sticks around for a little while longer, would like to hit it one more time.

    Tex,

Haha yeah, we all kept a limit on that particular day.  The deal is my uncle butchers my deer for free, and in return I keep him a couple slimey steelhead for the smoker...  Hey works for me, lol.

    Tim,

The ice is NOT 8 inches across that entire pool. Be careful duud.
The "snow drifts" are piles of slush and are thin.

Creel (sorry duud, gotta tell) made a classic move there on Wednesday.
He caught a fish, released the fish, then left his junk in the hole so it wouldn't freeze
while he tired to warm his wet hand.

Rod went flying down the hole.

In a display of stunning speed and agility, Creel hit the ice, slammed his ENTIRE arm
down the whole and retrieved the rod from the icy waters below.

It would have been sooooo video worthy if we had a camera.

Yeah, the creek ice was crazy as usual. I was telling spoon watch where you step because the snow drifts usually keep ice from forming, so what do I do.  The first hole I drilled was in a drift,  never cut any ice, just slush until I hit water.  2 feet away where I was standing, ice was 8".       I was also telling him how I've had fish hit jigs through the ice, just hanging their, no drift, no twitch. Just hanging in the hole.   John found out the hard way how they'll do that.   Can't believe you put your entire arm down that hole, you crazy old duud.

I've noticed the reels you use on your ice rods are mainly the ones you'd use with a noodle rod.

I haven't fished for steelies through the ice before so excuse my ignorance but would the ones that come on ice rods work okay or will steelies run a good ways down stream even with the ice?  Is the bigger reel typically necessary?

Thinking about trying it out this weekend.

You'll be ok with the little reels.  The first half dozen fish I caught yesterday were on my pflueger underspin reel.  I switched because the drag got wet/froze.  I've even landed a few on the plastic schooley ice rods on the bay, although it was a little more challenging on those rods.

Occassional you'll get a fish that takes a decent run, most just do the death roll until you can get their head started in the hole.

    Flash,

Thats a good point, although most of the tail end where we fished was pretty good ice.

Creek ice can be pretty dangerous in general...  For anyone whos new to it, be careful.

BTW we almost lost two or three rods last week while they were just sitting there, haha.
