I think you missed stump jumping the crappies from shore by about 2 to 3 months.  You might be able to catch some big channels from shore in evening/night.

If you are fishing for cats you should try out fishing the spillway.

Thinking of spending an extra long weekend camping and fishing at Pymatuning second week in July. We have stayed at Linesville and Jamestown and they are both nice.  Anyone have any suggestions on which end of the lake would give us the best luck fishing at that time.  I'd rather catch quantities of crappie, panfish, and largemouth than chase the walleye, which seems tough this year. We have a 12 ft. boot with a 7.5, and can get out, but have to watch the winds of course.  Any general or specific suggestions are truly appreciated.  We just wanna catch some fish.

It seems like you can ALWAYS catch fish off Linesville in the stumps between the islands.  Find 8 or 9 fow (if you can, lake is getting lower) with a stump around and you will catch various panfish, and occassional bass, some cats (some approaching 10# in there), and maybe even luck into an eye.

    Good luck to you..

    Nice fish Bing!

There are a few in there that size now, a lot less of the ones on the right that the lake used to be famous for.  Caught a 25 1/2 'eye last year in a bass tourney in 3 fow on a spinnerbait!

We were trolling bottom bouncers and crawler harnesses. Had to find the fish cribs that were in 17 fow. We saw a few large pods of bait fish being busted on the surface. Not sure what was chasing them but sure was a commotion.

like i posted before, for some reason, and i dont know if ANYBODY knows why, and it makes NOOOO sense, there are ALWAYS SUMMME(correct spelling) walleye in shallow(2-5 fow) in pymy. its always been that way. fishing WAAASS ALWAYS easy in 10-20 fow trolling hot n tots and wiggle warts. when the open water walleye bite shuts off end of june there are always walleye to be caught in shallow water. think about all the walleye you catch at the spillway, and all the walleye you catch end of april to end of june. they dont all swim through the holes in the causeway to get to deep water in jamestown and they dont all jump out of the lake and return in april. the fish are there; they still eat to survive.

I'll be swinging by sometime this weekend, most likely near the spillway with the kids.  I've never fished there.  Any advice about poppers on the fly?  I've become addicted to that this summer, and was wondering if there's any decent shoreline action there.  Evening?  Mid-day?  Morning?  Depth near shore?  Like the thread about P.I., I have no clue about Pymy's depth.  I can swim, but may not want to at that moment.  Are there even bucketmouths in there?  Wifey might even be open to learning fly casting.  Thanks in advance.

If you have a fly that looks like bread you can catch some carp. The spillway has all variety of fish, plenty of panfish, catfish, and some bass. On the weekend the crowds might make the back cast interesting....If you want to drown worms with the kids the spillway should be fine. I believe the shore line around the spillway drops off pretty quick. In the spring folks wearing chest waders don't get out too far. I'm sure someone will add some better info, my experience is limited to a yearly carp fest with the boys. (maybe two)

Lake's low enough you can walk out onto the "outer wall" and probably not have too much trouble casting.  It is a little deeper there 6 to 8'  But smallies will hang around the wall.  There are a LOT of bucketmouths in the lake, but I don't think you are in the right area for them.  North end has lots of pads, weeds, and stumps to fish for them.

Something funny from the Post-Gazette's weekly 'fishing report'...

Shenango Reservoir (Mercer County): A mixed bag of hybrid striped bass, smallmouth bass and crappies is being caught, along with bluegills and catfish. Bass are coming off structure and along the shoreline. 'Wipers' are hitting at night. With the walleye bite slowing at Pymatuning Reservoir, night fishing for walleyes at Shenango has picked up. Crappies are being caught at the outflow of springs and on brush piles.

You know the walleye fishing is bad when anglers are resorting to Shenango Lake...

Thanks for the advice on North or South. We're going to North end, we like Linesville better, anyway.  Thank goodness the budget crap is over, or we'd have had to go gambling and hit a few liquor stores instead. Craziness.  Just got a handheld G.P.S..  Anyone have any G.P.S. points they've done well at on the North end of the lake? I'll have some for everyone next week.  Thanks in advance.

I have no fish to show for it, but we were trolling a little Sunday afternoon and got a few hits on walleye divers off the point north of the tuttle point beach.  I trolled there last August with the same presentation and got two smallmouth and missed a nice walleye at the boat in just a couple hours.  Seemed to be good in around 14 feet of water.

Has anyone been fishing Pymatuning lately?  I was considering making a trip to the lake over Labor Day weekend at some point and was curious how the action has been as of late.
