ice report

Well guys i went to Wilhelm this am and there was ice but not enough maybe 2 in 3 at best with rising temps and rain on the way. There was no one else at the stumps not a sole and i wasnt gona die alone. Sorry to say with next week forcasts it may be awhile before we can go again. I stopped at fergies bait and bs a while he said the rain really did a number on the ice. anyhow im sure its no better any where else either so we will just have to be patient!!!!!

Took a ride today.  Conneaut, pymy and shenango were iced over.  Shenango has open water by the causeway.  Pymy and conn.  were iced completely as far as I could see.  Just need cold temps to make the ice safe.  Next week we may be fishing.  Hopefully!

Duck hunted Shenango yesterday and the ice is slowly forming.
Downed a pintail and was afraid to send the dog out to retreive it. Patches of open water with 1 inch ice.
Rain today will re-open spots. Cold coming after that. Maybe by next week it,ll be fishable. Will let ya know. John

Found 3-4 inches on a local pond here in Lawrence County tonight.  Had 3-4 of real nice ice with 2-3 in of slush then the snow on top of it.

My guess is there will be guys on Shenango somewhere tomorrow if they are not out already.

There were about 5 guys fishing shenango today.  Ice is 3-3.5 inches.  I didnt drill any holes but was told that from 2 guys.  I am waitng til this coming weekend.  Single digit lows and mid teens for the highs for the last half of this week.  With temps that cold, I can wait.

Checked ice at 3 posts and down by **** at Wilhelm yesterday.  Ice was still pretty ugly both places.  About 1 1/2'" of white ice then 2" of water then 2" of soft ice.  Varied a little different places. Don't know about up at the stumps.

Drilled a couple holes at Tamarack last night (1-26-09). Right off the dam end boat launch I first found only 5" (maybe 3 solid, 2 white), walked further out (say 50yards) and found about 9" (5 solid, 3-4 white). Bottom layer was a little tough to get through though. Dropped camera down in 4' of water and saw nothing. Only there a short bit, but looks like a couple other people have been out. Saw a couple other foot prints and sled tracks. No one else on the ice (as far as I could see). Water was still tea colored as usual. I would have thought the water clarity would have improved. YOu can tell the wind had a major impact on the ice that has formed.

I generally only fish for 'skies in the lake.  I have seen crappies and gills up on the beds, but have never seen any with good size.  Am I missing something?  For what it is worth, I have caught some hawg largemouths on musky tackle.

    griffon,
No your not missing anything. Panfishing is awesome, easy 50+ fish an evening only problem is that not 1 of them will be over 6"and for the very few that are they are real skinny. Lake has never been right since the drawdown as far as panfishing goes.
