I think we need an official review of what we have in the pictures.  It time to send them to the officials in the booth as they do in the NFL!!! There never is a question after they come out from under the hood.

i guess no one has any issues with this nice collection a snagged fish?

As soon the word snagging is mentioned, everyone is appalled...
But
when pictures of lifted and lined fish are posted... the hummer line starts to the left

i'm not advocating crucifying the guy....
but
either no one knows what snagging really is, advocate questionable fishing methods, or just don't care to say anything

nothing personal GLEN

I have taken notice in the past that you (KJH) pretty much never post anything positive, period, about anybody or anything.

Never?

not even that PM i sent you last week?

If this gets into a battle I will lock this thread!

Glen,
Nice fish!

KJH,

Dude, if you wanted to be a WCO than you should apply! Untill then, you stated your opinion about the pics so let it go. Anymore about it will be considered rude and inconsiderate!

Snagging because the fish is hooked on the outside of the mouth? Read about the Moffitt system in the February issue of Fly Fisherman magazine.  Its a very interesting concept. The article starts on page 33. I guess everyone has their own idea of what the term snagging , lifting or linning is.  But he does make a good point.

There will be days when fishing is better than ones optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

honestly, there is NOT indisputable evidence to overturn this call..... the HOOK could be in the mouth while the glow bug itself is on the outside. if the fly was in the fin or gill or tail then i could see the beef, but come on dude.

also, it may not have anything to do with lining, although this DOES occur. i have seen many steelies try to take a fly that is DRAGGING along the bottom by turning sideways (they have to in order to see the fly because they can't see directly below). the result is a fly on the edge of the mouth (just a bit outside). i don't necessarily consider this snagging. in fact professional bass tournaments allow fish to be kept IF the bass attempted to eat the lure, but got hung up on the trebles. pretty much the same thing here......

Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrppppppp!!!!

RE: Glen's fish pictures,  Snagged or lifted??  To anyone concerned: !'ve been fishing steelhead with Glen every fall for the past 25 yrs. He is NOT a snagger, lifter, or liner, never was never will be. Photos can be deceiving when  trying to judge wether a fish is fair hooked or not. Examples:  using tube flies, often the fly detaches from the hook making it appear that the entire fly is outside the mouth, except for the hook.  I know for a fact that all the pictured fish were caught on egg patterns, I tied them, was with him that day.  Sometimes when landing a fish the leader will catch behind the mandible (jaw hinge) changing the angle of pull making it appear that the fish is hooked outside the mouth. Check the last fish picture, photo is a bit blurry but you can very faintly see what I believe is the hook inside the mouth. IMO the most foul hook resistant method of fishing steelhead  is float or indicator with a lead no longer than the depth of the water you are fishing.  Want to reduce accidental foul hooking? Ban 2 fly rigs, weighted flies, JMHO.

foul hooking a fish by accident is one thing. snagging is another thing.i have never seen anyone in erie snagging. go to the salmon river during salmon season what a joke! guys told us you have to watch cus the wco keep an eye out for that.(we were fly fishing) that is bull, cus there were more snaggers there than fisherman, they werent even trying to hide it.
