Anyone try the ShowDown digital, vertical fish finders yet? I saw a demo on-line, seemed like it might be a good product & lower in price than other units.

Do your homework before you buy the showdown...I've never used one, but it has been getting skewered on other sites. I just bought a Marcum lx-5 after using a vex for the last 10 years. The vex is still going strong, but the Marcum has some features that the vex doesn't have.

Crazy, I actually haven't had the chance to use mine yet, but I've seen a couple Marcum LX-3's and LX-5's in action and some of their features are nice. They have what they call "super fine line" which shows a much greater detail (especially useful when trying to distinguish bottom fish detail or picking out where the largest fish in a group are concentrated) and their zoom is adjustable anywhere in the water column. I night fish a lot for crappie and often am targeting slabs that are suspending 10' down in 30fow and this should be a nice tool for targeting them. Don't get me wrong though...as I stated earlier, I've been using a Vex for ten years and it's been a workhorse for me. I bought a new flasher this year because I sometimes fish with guys who don't have a flasher and it's not fun to share . My vexilar fl-8slt is still running strong and will be used all winter long. I don't think you'll be sorry getting either the vex or marcum.

This is what im saying. Vex. then marcum since i dont have one. BUt on the showdown i see its an LCD screen..i dont know about you but i know ANY kinda LCD screen gets messed up in the cold...slows down...notice your cell phones screen slow down? thats an LCD so i CANT totally say it would do the same..but its just a therory i have on that unit. meaning it would not show the fish as "fast" as it would say it does or leave a trail on fast moving objects. i notice even on the videos they have shown of it it seems like when the lure drops there is a slight trail of it following. so i wouldnt get this unit..plus i had a vex before all the so called"knock offs" emergded. IF i would get a new unit i would look into the marcums though. they do seem like a nice unit. but then again by the time i would need one VEX might make something nicer then now...or who knows..I might make something..called tssffboatatbti short for.... Better too far back, than too far forward.
