Allegheny Canoe Trip, Kinzua to Tionesta
I'm planning a canoe trip starting 6/16 from the Kinzua to Tionesta. I'm looking for advice on what lures / fishing tackle to bring. Also tips on campng spots on this stretch of the river would be appreciated. Thanks Rob K.

I use a rebel crawfish lure. It is very good for trout in that stretch espcially from the dam to warren.

The Rebel crawfish is a good choice. Also can't go wrong with Rapalas and spinnerbaits for walleye and smallmouth bass.

For smallmouth take a couple top water lures i.e. black buzzbait, yozuri walking stick, black jitter bug. We did well using those baits last weekend in water 4' and less. Minnow lures like X Raps, Husky Jerks, Pins Minnow and shad raps are standards for bass and walleye. Spinner baits usually work if you are fishing in shallower moving water. I make up my own spinner baits using safety pin rigs, 1/8 or 1/4 oz jig heads, and a twister or swim bait body. You can create many different lures using several different kinds of parts. Crawfish baits are usually a good fit, over shallow flats and in riffles, if the algae and weeds are not abundant. If the water is clear start with silver/black, then gold/black, then chartruse. If the water is muddy start with brighter colors first. If you have the time to fish for minnows, riffle runners are a great bait for bass and walleye. You can catch them in the riffles (fast, shallow water near points) using #22 hooks and a tiny piece of worm. Good luck!

Allegheny jet summed it up pretty good. Try to get some big Huss lures if you can. The trout up by Warren love them.

Any chance for a muskie? If so what lure / bait would work.

Pitching jigs tipped with half a worm or leech should get you some eyes if they are hungry. Hit the beginnings and washouts of the holes. Anchor up and work the area if you can. The outflow of the creek behind the refinery is really good in the spring, fall and winter but don't know how well it would be in the summer. There is a large, deep hole just down stream from the refinery that usually holds smallies, eyes and rock bass galore. Spinning those rifle minnies throught the riffles and just below them should get you some trout and eyes or bass. Tie on a spro swivel with a 2.5' flourocarbon leader and attach to the mainline. Make a small loop in the end of the leader (just a double half hitch loop will work) and use a rigging needle to run the line through the mouth of the minnie and out its anus. Attach a small treble hook to the loop and embed on hook into the bottom of the minnie just behind the anus and pull the line tight. Attach a split shot up in front of the swivel and work the riffles. Some nice camping islands in Starbrick. Can't go wrong with rapalas either. Good luck and don't forget to post up a report.

I usually just fish the bottom. Small hook and a worm. Sorta like trout fishing. I also have luck with creek chubs. Go up any trib that goes into the river and have a go at it.

I have no problem catching creek chubs. Its the suckers that I can't seem to get. You get the suckers in the river, a creek, or a creek flowing into the river? I can't ever seem to see suckers 6-12 inch.

Alittle bit of them all. I usually try to find some slow water and try there. It mostly works for me. also I have better luck in the tribs than in the river.
