I have one and it is one of my favorite rods.  Has all the finesse and feel of a stick but it will handle anything, and is ,so far, unbreakable.  And the price is right.  Mine is the 6-7 wt. from about 12 years ago.  It'll catch fish just as well as a 700 dollar rod.  Plus you get to use the "sympathy factor" esp if you put a martin reel on it. LOL.  That's the rig I use and I get plenty of stares , , , and then I just keep on catching fish.

I broke the tip on my 3/4 wt Cortland and switched to my 8 wt Ugly Stik which works well, but much heavier and different "feel". I've caught kings on it, but usually use an 11 wt Ugly Stik for the kings!

Used to use a 5/6 wt. Ugly for many years on the tribs back in the day. It was a great stick.
Switched to a 8 wt. Pflueger when combat fishing became mandatory after the internet blew up Erie.

I bought a used 8wt ugly about five years ago. It was my first fly rod. I used it for the first 3 years and it worked great. I must have cracked the inner core because I could hear a rattle in the top section, but it continued to work fine. I ended up buying another rod for steelhead and gave the ugly to my buddy. I believe he still uses it from time to time. The biggest difference that I noticed was the weight. It was surprising to me how light my new rod was compared to the ugly. Other than that, they both work perfect for the steel. I have some fond memories with the ugly,.. catching my first steel on the fly.
