First time for Steelheads

10 years ago I decided I wanted to try steelhead fishing. So off to the tackle shop I went to spend some money. I purchased an Okuma 10'6 rod and an Okuma Avenger spinning reel, some fluro line and some mini foos. This stuff sat in my basement until last  Thursday!
I have no idea what took me so long to finally get up to the Erie tribs and give it a try! All I can think about is I waisted 10 years of goood fishing!

Lots of people, lots of fish and lots of fun!!!

Not knowing anything about the creeks or the fish I went to Poor Richards, told them that this was my first time. The told me where to go, what to use and where to get a room for the night. In the morning I hit Walnut creek and stayed there all day. Hooked up about 15 fish and landed 2. But due to a big fish and a stringer that couldent hold up, I only got to keep one. 8.25lb!

I cant wait to get back for some more fun!

On a similar note, I took a newbie to the stream Saturday and eventually put him on some fish. He managed to hook and play a bunch and eventually put two on a rope for his Dad to smoke. He told me later on the way home that he never expected the fish to fight and jump that much. Said it was nothing like the trout fishing he was used to.

Great job on your first steel trip! Hope you took pics. Remember the first trip always, and look back once in a while.

The young man I took to the tribs on Saturday and helped catch his first two steelheads came to my house today and gave me a 12X14 framed photo of he and I holding his two fish along with a note of appreciation. One fish weighed 9pd 4 oz. Said it was the biggest fish he's caught.

A very thankfull young man - I'm sure his parents are real proud of him - a gentleman.
