Slobs

I know I'm probably preaching to the Choir here but I just Need to vent a little so bear with me...   Some of you know I live in Erie and am proud of this town some call the mistake by the lake...      I met up with a couple board members for a morning of fishing and BS ing over on Elk.....   We fished all morning hit a couple of different spots....   What I need to vent about is the trash I found...  Now there wasn't a lot but what I did see really ****ED ME OFF...    I parked in one of the better known spots went to fish a while but when I came back to the car  RIGHT BEHIND MY CAR   was a pile of trash...  Looked like a bunch of guys had driven 3 or 4 hours Stopping at every convenience between home and Erie ....  I found no less then 12 Coffee cups  Numerous bags of junk food wrappers  Napkins..  Just about the only thing I didn't find was someones used condom..  I guess they don't have enough balls to need one...     I guess what I am trying to say is  Fellas leave the streams better off then they were when you got there....  Pick up anything you see that shouldn't be there and take it to the proper place and dispose of it.....   Lets see some Pride     I'll make this offer   Anybody that shows up for the Stream cleanup this Sunday can go through my fly box and pick out 1/2 Dozen flies       And for the Slobs out there that leave there trash  Well Just   KISS MY **MONKEY**     Sorry to be so blatant but I'm ****ED OFF

Couldn't agree more, Skip.  I may not clean up the place Adopt-a-highway style every time I'm out, but if I see some trash that doesn't look infectious, I'll usually grab it and pack it out.  I was actually pleasantly surprised at the lack of trash I found this past weekend, but I know that big access points get positively nasty.

Being a local and call this city home, I take offense to this kind of behavior, too!

It's frustrating when there's a garbage can in the majority of the parking lots, all you pigs have to do is stash your trash until you get there!!!  On a side note, Skip what happened to all the beautiful young ladies who I'd much rather kiss than your monkey!!!

When camping or fishing I live by that saying "leave the stream(or campsite) better than you found it"

That not only includes trash but your impact on the land, your latrines and fire rings.

I carried a bag of trash out of Upper Elk near McKean last week. The funny thing was that the person who left it there had thought to tie the trash up neatly in a bag but not carry it back to their car. It was unbelievable.

As another local I too can relate I took a nasty spill the other night down at the mouth due to an abundance of junk fishing line. It looked like someone respooled next to the stream and left the old line to trip up people and tangle up with the wildlife. Due to my very loud "French" accent the guy nearest to me picked up his empty coffee cup and put it in his creel bag.

Take your Chit with you when you leave the stream. Twice this week ive left the mouth of elk with a backpack full of garbage and theres still more down there.

FYI theres a dumpster on your way to your vehicle, corner of the parking lot.

I always thought Cleveland was the "mistake by the lake"?

Anyway, its a real shame to see all the trash along the creeks, it gives us a bad name and is a negative reflection on all of us who frequent the areas.  Its sad, I know, but if the considerate do their part every little bit will help.  To the slobs, theres no excuse for what you do.  You have no right to call yourselves anglers, outdoorsmen because of your utter ignorance.  Wish I could be ther to help out Sunday, but I'll be sure to do my part the next time I'm up.

I always pick up line when I find it. i have  an old PA Angler and there is a picture of a small songbird tangled up in a big mess of line.I fished a local pond yesterday and was surprised all the crap that was thrown in the weeds, couldn't see it till all the leaves were down.I take a grocery bag and pick up stuff quite often.

I'm gonna fish more and work less.

I noticed something regarding litter. When I fish the upper part of Elk I see very little litter, when I fish near the access there is always lots of litter. It appears more slobs fish the lower Elk than upstream.
I usually carry a bag with me and pick up what I can.

you're right skip...it is a mess down there - dudes pooping in the woods next to the parking lot...

I pitch a b!tch every time I'm down there...those that know me know I'm "quite vocal" about littering...everone in earshot hears it when I'm picking up trash around my truck (that wasnt there in the morning)...but there's really not much you can do about it....most just stand there and watch me cuss with my trash bag in hand walking circles...I would like to see another dumpster and maybe a couple of port-o-johns in the upper parking lot...

my bud stood talking to a guy that was drinking his coffee one morning while fishing at walnut - they bs a few minutes and the guy moves upstream....dropped HIS coffee cup right behind my buddies pack that he left on the bank so we wouldnt see it till we left or moved...needless to say we went looking for him....he still talks about that...

what really makes me wonder is the people that walk thier dogs - the hooks I see laying on the ground - sheesh...without even looking hard....

    its a shame....

    Wilbur,

You could place a trash can every 10 feet on each side of the bank and people STILL will just leave their trash on the ground!

it is a mess everywhere..........it is quite insane that there are any public lands open to us........more and more lands get posted every year......but the yahoo's who do it....really don't care.........they will just always go somewhere else........

once, while working........I noticed an Eastern Screech Owl--red phase-- that was wrapped up in 20 pound mono......it had drown.........it was dangling from a huge Sycamore tree...........sad to see a beautiful creature erased because some goof was too lazy to put his mono in his pocket.........I really wish I knew who left the line........or at least saw the guy leave the mess.........

It all about setting an example as well.  When I leave the streams with my son we always look for extra garbage, especially extra line.   I hope in the future when I am not around he does the same.  When his friends see him do this they will as well.  If you bring someone to the streams, explain the rule.  Leave with more than you brought, and not just fish.

I also hate to see the litter left behind by the slobs in the world. They should be caught, prosecuted, convicted, and sentenced to spend a specified time collecting the litter along the streams or the highways and byways left behind by others of their ilk. My daddy taught me to do as the Indian's did and leave nothing behind but my footprints. And not even those if I can help it. By the way, I live along a major highway and you wouldn't believe the amount and the types of things people, and I use that term lightly, throw out of their vehicle's for me to pick up. Count me as one who is also "Ticked off." Nuff said.
