WVA weekend

Started out thursday night, got down there late 12:30-1, got set up and to sleep by 2.  Up at 5 then boat in 40 min and walk another hour.  Found some hot scrapes over some openings that had been mowed by DNR.  My buddy and I set up about 400 yds from each other.  Me in the bottom on the scrapes and him on the highest bench on the hill.

Day was slow a few deer here and there. then at 5 pm things got interesting.
Saw 42 deer between 5 and dark shot a small spike, my buddy shot a 6pt.  Both of us thought our hits were back further than they should have been and the deer didn't go far so we decided to wait until morning.  Rain all night.....uhoh....Walked in at daybreak found mine laying right where I thought it was.  Turns out I was back but had a better angle than I thought and got lungs too.  He was dead before I left the tree.  Buddies deer went about 350 we found him in a grapevine thicket.  Great hunt, both have one more archery tag left, can't wait to get back down there.....

Better too far back, than too far forward.

We had about 4 square miles of public land to ourselves saturday.
