Most of the time it's more about how you present the bait and hitting the right water conditions then what you're actually using.

My 5 favorites in order:

1. Medium Size FatHeads (Not drifted but threaded onto the line with a needle and worked through current)

2. Egg Sacs (Better when the water is high and off colored)

3. Black Mini Foo Jig  (Shake it and jig it right near them -  This will **** Steelhead off and trigger angry aggressive strikes)

4. Emerals Shiners (Used the same way as the fat heads.  Shiners seem to fall apart much easier than fatheads.)

5. Sucker Spawn / Single Eggs (Better when the water is low and clear)

If you have to spin, use a small indicator, fluro leader, size 12 wide bend hook, and single egg size yarn balls. If you know how to make a drift you can catch all the fish you want without having to deal with all the skanky bait issues. Or, get a vest with one pocket for skein, one for waxworms, one for eggsacks, one for worms, one for cleos[ to snag with] , one for flatfish, one for jigs, one for maggots. Then get a jar to hang around your neck for minnows. Make it as complicated as you want. Glen

when the conditions are rite and you are fishing them correctly, nothing will outfish a single egg.

2 treble hooks and a 1/2 ounce weight ripping it as hard as i can.
Just joking i like to use skein, flatfish lures but only when i am fishing in the lake at the mouths, trout magnots, mini foo foos.  and if all else fails flatheads casue they seem to perform all the time.  I dont catch as many with fatheads but it seems they are always good for at least 1

Usually what ever you personally have the most faith in will work because you will no doubt use that particular bait, lure, fly or snagging hook most often. It's what ever floats your particular boat.

I would agree with Wally with the exception of the snagging hooks..  The fly or bait you know the best and know how to fish is the one that the steelies will bite.  Steelies are not that particular most of the time if they are in a biting mood.  If they have a case of lockjaw, nothing is going to work.

I put the snaggin' hook into my last post just to get a rise out of some of you gentlemen. I prefer buggers, ss, and nymphs but also use single eggs and minnows. I know, I'm not a purist and will often use bait/eggs/minnows, etc.

My friends and I use electro-static shock therapy to bring them to us. Its so easy. all you need is a shocker and some nets and a few coolers to drag em out.

SEE ...  ITS  SO  EASY !!!

Then just BONK em on the head and fill up da cooler

10 minutes and Im all done time to go home and smoke em

I'll give away one of my most deadliest tricks I've learned over the years. I've walked into holes where guys were fishing for hours and couldn't catch em. I've caught palomino's on this combo, rainbows, record breaking brooks and massive man eating browns.

here's the trick:
we all know fish love crawlers and waxies.

well my friends, attach a small piece of living leaf to your waxie combo, I usualy use 2 to three at a time. this makes the fish think those babies just fell out of the tree and are natural. it also covers up the hook a lot better!

what do you guys think of my trick?
