TICKS

Has anybody else notice that there are more and more ticks in the woods every year! Is there some kind of spray that I can use to keep them off me and not stink?

Years following a good mass crop, there's more ticks.

Head and shoulders keeps them away.  I think scent shield makes some type of product for ticks.

Dad has have four on him so far this year.

During my walk yesterday I noticed I had a handful of them on my sweatshirt.  Thanks for bringing this up, I also would like to know how to prevent/eliminate them from getting on me.

I picked my deer up from the processor tonight, they gave me the head back, and it has ticks on it, 4 from what I counted.

Whats the chance of getting Lymes from one?

I had a wood tick on me Sunday night.  Heat up a needle (I use my bodkin), put it on your skin by their head, and they'll back out of your skin.

A deer tick is about the small of a pin head.. yes, really small.  A wood tick is about .. I don't know, 4 times that size.  Wood ticks don't carry lyme disease, I think.  Someone correct me if they do.

then I saw both on him.

those things suck, and they get in your head, any touch to your skin is a tick!

    Think you're right Kype.

This is kinda nasty, but about 10 years ago, I had a wood tick embedded down yonder.  Doctor said not to worry about lyme disease with those.

I had 3 deer ticks embedded in my skin last year after a pheasant hunt in tall wheat on a warm day.  My lab had about a dozen.  Hunted that same field yesterday, and felt like I was going nuts afterwards.

If you're not sure, some doctor's offices (at least mine anyway) will send the tick away for analysis.  Not sure how long they have to be imbedded to transmit lyme disease.

My doc gave me some mega antibiotics just to be safe, although he told me that not all deer ticks carry lyme disease.

Try Frontline. It works but I now drink water out of the toilet.

I think the book says 24/48 hours.

The repellent defeats the purpose of trying to stay scent free. I usually just keep shaking out my clothes while in the woods. When I hunt in an area with a lot of them I will change clothes at the truck, leaving the hunting clothes in the back of my pickup followed by an immediate shower when I get home. Ticks are hard to kill.

Yeah, i had one on the inside of my thigh last year, close to my Randy Johnson.

I was relieved and disgusted at the same time.

just had one removed from my son the other day.  Dr. said 72 hours for the juices to start to recirculate then lyme can be transmitted.

Better too far back, than too far forward.
