Going against the grain.........

Here's some more food for thought.  Throwing 2-3" long patterns that are over 150 years old to steelhead.  They draw some pretty impressive strikes.   Dee flies.  -O.C.T.

    Nice job.
Been a while since I fished some of the more classic style flies.
I just don't have that kind of time anymore at the bench.
I always found the broader silhouette out fished the sparse ones.
Now I'm down to just wrapping a hunk of marabou on the hook and tying off.

Absolutly beautiful!  I don't know that I could justify the expense...heck...who am I kidding...I don't enen have near the skill to tie those patterns.  The 2nd one up from the bottom on the left looks killer.  The body color really flows nicely...

Hey, thanks everybody!  I appreciate it!   You know, it really isn't all that expensive when you break down the materials put into it.  I actually spent less on the Jungle****cape that I use to tie fishing flies, than on some of the Whiting necks I use to tie dry flies!!! LOL!  The hackle is Blue eared pheasant that can be bought for about as much as a bag of teal feathers.  I dye my own black, so that's a minimal expense.   The body is seal fur substitue or SLF and the wings are turkey tails and peacock wings.  Both can be bought cheap on FLEABAY.   No joke!   It's amazing what you can dig up if you search.   All told, the most expensive investment on these flies were the Owner hooks and the Tubes they are tied on.  I have found, too, that the offset eye on the hooks makes for a messy ride in the water column.  I have no idea why except that that little angle acts as a weird keel for the fly and causes it to wobble, instead of plane smoothly.  Straight shanked Daichii's or Black Birds are probably the way to go.  Thanks again, y'all.  It's good inspiration to receive this kind of positive feedback!   -O.C.T.
