FOOD PLOTS

Alot of you guys talk about planting these things. Is it legal to hunt over a food plot isn't that just like hunting over bait?My and the old man bought two fawns 4 years ago.The one is a 20 inch 9 point and the other one is a 18 inch high nine point(there probably both 125 or 130 inches). They started as spikes then they were  never smaller then a eight point. All we feed them is corn and sweet feed.

No the one is like a dog you can pet him and the other one is like a wild deer if he sees someone unfamiliar he starts running like a manic.I noticed the cooler mornings the friendly one will dig out with his feet and rake the fence with his horn he's getting pretty crazy.I shot a 8 point last year my old man cutted the hawks off of him then when he want to feed them the friendly one charged him and stabbed him throught the forearm. He told me to get the gun but i was lying on the ground laughing to hard.Probably get a full mount when the friendly one dies.

My taxidermist used to have a true albino buck penned in his yard.  Its last year of life, it was a 10 pt. and the fence couldn't handle him in the rut.  I think Charlie had to put him down.

Watch them around your lady friends the next couple months to.  I know a guy who raises deer for a second living and one of his monsters (180 class) last year about killed his wife.  It charged her and thank god the deer had a huge rack because she was able to get in the middle of it and not get speared. They had to dart it to get it off of her.  There son who is about 300lbs couldn't even move the deer when he ran into it trying to save his mom. Even deer in pens get the nutty feeling during October and Nov.  Actually most pen deer get it even a little earlier.

Chicken27,  Food Plots are very productive. Yes you can hunt over them you just cant hunt over apples your set out of shelled corn or come here deer or a salt block.

Chicken, re-read your post again. It is typed as if you fed these deer for a few years to get them used to you, now you want to hunt them. Sounds like baiting to me. Also, illegal. The food plot isn't but your motives have to be.

If you want people to understand what you are saying, type a better paragraph. I hope someone else shoots those bucks because I don't want to see pictures of you with one of them on he braggin board. That would be nothing to brag about.

Problem is that everyone wants to be special in this country. What is wrong with a dog? You should have bought the kids a mountain lion, I hear they are really a hot topic when they escape.

If you want to grow some antlers, feed them something with high protein. Plant clover, alfalfa, etc. Deer like corn, but it isn't very nutritional. A high protein diet will grow antlers, not just bellies. Try it, you'll be convinced.

food plots are green and grassy...corn is not......if hunting over a food plot was illegal then hunting anywhere near a field or open area or oak/beech flat would be illegal too.....we use a our own mix of winter wheat,**** white clover, and millet..works great..my buddy just took a 10pt(140-150 range) off it with his bow monday evening and i plan to do the same to the 9pt we have coming in....they work awesome.

Because you can control what grows when. How many natural food sources do you know of in December?

Food plots do work. I planted some biologic a few years ago. It brought some deer to the field I planted it in, which was mostly grass before it was planted. That year, there were very few acorns in my area. A year later when there were a lot of acorns, the deer didn't frequent the food plot like the year before.

Why do you think the game commission lets you grow food plots and not use feeders?  Isn't it the same thing.  Some people just don't have the property for growing food plots.  I'm not trying tick anyone off here, I just don't see the difference.  Trust me, if I had property, I'd probably be growing some myself.  And if they legalize baiting in 2B sometime, I'll probably be taking that up too ...if I can afford it.
