flies

In general, do you use smaller flies when water is clear and bigger more attractant flies when water is high and dirty. or doesnt it make a difference

    oh it can make a big difference.  you have to let the fish tell you what they want.  i like to fish the biggest fly they will take.  but i will fish 22's when i have to.
     
    bigger flies mean better hooking percentage and also able to keep them on the hook.  also easier to see.

    In addition to clear/turbid you should also adjust for fast/slow. Fish get a better look in clear, slow water and are likely to be pickier. In fast water, the fish has to decide NOW, so bigger a/o a bit of flash may be the ticket. But like Riz said, the fish decides.
