green weenies

Ive never had much luck with them. which do you prefer bead heads or non beadheads?  how would you fish them tandems or alone? this is bout the only fly Ive had no luck with. Ive tied a ton but only time Ive lost them was either in the trees or under rocks never to a fish.

I have friends that have good luck with them...I have never caught a fish on them..Probably cause I don't have enough confidence in them to fish 'em

I have the right to remain silent.....I just don't have the ability

I catch alot of fish on them in the spring creeks here.  They are either taking them as inchworms or rycophillia(sp?) nymphs, in either event they catch their fair share of fish for me.  Stockies hit them pretty well also, especially brookies.  I have never tried them for steelies before but, after reading this I will definately try them up there this year.  Considering they are a 30 second tie it can't hurt to have some with you.

I usually tie mine in 12-14's with a bead on them.

If you fish them in streams with any species of caddis that have a bright green larva, you'll catch fish.

I find the smaller the better, a lot of times I see guys using them in a size 12 or even 10 but I have had no luck with that big of a fly, I usually tie mine on a size 16 or smaller, and use it as a drop and have had pretty good sucess, no bead.

May the holes in your net be no larger than the fish in it.

I have done them in red and done well, also in an olive green, hell I am sure any color will work, I have seen some many different color of caddis from creek to creek.....

I remember last year I was doing really well with chart. ss. I lost my last one and tried a green weenie and they didn't want anything to do with it. Might have been too big though.

I don't give a crap if anybody listens to me or not.

I really wasn't thinking about their representation of caddis larvae when I made my original post...duh!!!

Has anyone ever done well with them for steelies?

    So true!

You know a patriot dry fly with a green weenie dropper is a great producer of heavy browns.  At least that's what Charlie Meck told me.

I have had success with the weenie.... (see screen name)...

mainly for trout back here in WV....  But, i have also landed a few steel on them as well...

Pink is another option that wasn't mentioned above...

I have absolutely pounded steelies and stocked trout with them. The best luck I've had with them is when the water is stained. I tie them on a size 14 or 16 wet fly or nymph hook.

You must keep the green weenie green, otherwise it will no longer be a green weenie.
