Pike fishing on Pymatuning

Hey guys, I was hoping someone could help me out.  Me and my old man are going up to Pyma this weekend for a day or so, and I was hoping to fish for pike / muskie....

The problem is, without a boat it's probably going to be tough.  I've read they are biting in shallower areas, but if anyone has any pointers I'm all ears.  I just don't know if I can handle a day of catching nothing but 5 inch perch and bluegills.  Then again, I know the perch make great bait!

Any pointers, tips, and maybe prayers I could say to make this fishing eventful would be great!

Thanks!

Hmm, Well. you could always take 2 rods, and catch fish on the smaller of the two, and then put them on the big rod, and cast it out there.

For places I'm the wrong guy to ask, I barely fish there. I think Shutupandfish or MikaStorm may have more knowledge.

never seen a pike come out of pymy, but theres a decent number of muskies in there... and some magnums too.  Concentrate on weed edges with deeper water close by, it will be hard without a boat, but those are the kinds of spots to hit right now... never fished much north of the causway except for crappies, so not sure if it would be good for muskies or not.

I just talked to my Dad, we're going to see about renting a boat.  Otherwise, I know I'm not going to even have an outside shot!  Thanks for the help guys.

if you want smallmouth, they are coming in shallow in the evenings on the points and bars.   we have been using shadraps and floating rapalas and getting them in less than six feet of water.  waders will help.

Sunfish- You can fish from shore below the dam, using rapalas and maybe a bluegill or creek chub and you'll definitely have a shot at a musky or two...that's how I got started.
