lake arthur dam
need a little help please. buddy and i are going below the dam soon below arthur. have never been there. could anyone describe it for me? should i bring waders? how wide? anything to help. going to be off of work for a time and will have time to do a few new places. thanks,

I only fish it in the winter when you can get to it better, the creek is maybe a cast width, but there's a ton of snags (logs) there is brush and trees along the shoreline that limits access to the creek. just look for openings along the creek and fish there.

Depends on the side you fish....off the right side, sure you can wade, but you can cast the whole area from shore.... Up top, no wading....you'll drown :D

Yes, soon as you hit the parking lot at McDaniels you will see a gate on your right and a green meadow with a path in it, that is the dam, walk back to the fence, on the right at the spillway there will be sorta of steps that take you down to the outflow, I fished it before and just wore my archer boots, it is only about 5 yrds wide, good luck. If you take the Northshore exit off of 422 you will be on a little one way road. A small bridge on the bottom of a dip, right past the exit is Muddy Creek, which is the outflow for Lake Arthur. You can park at the bridge and walk in either direction along the creek. I've caught a couple of small mouth in there, but mostly I just catch snags.

If you're wading, I'd watch your step. Lots of things to trip on and it gets deep in certain areas. That first step off the shore can be interesting too. I always wear waders in case I actually hook into a musky(never happens) and it tangles me. The way it stinks, I don't want that mud touching my waders anyhow.lol.

I fish mostly for muskies but tried jigging for walleye & bass but all I got was snagged. Don't run any lures that dive or you will lose them, rapalas and other shallow running baits are good to use.

Rapala, go to McDaniels as you come in off to right is dam and Muddy Creek outflow. There is Muddy Creek are and inflow on other end of lake. Don't confuse them.
The creek is a great little fish area. You can catch everything that is in the lake there. Some huge fish have been caught out of there over the years, but depending upon when you go etc. you can get skunked. Wading is not very good in most of creek --deep muddy bottom. Other than in the immediate dam area and a few cut away spots, casting can be tough -- lots of snag and overhanging trees. I like to fish live bait on a bobber with a steel leader. You will see musky in there, but they don't chase every bait. Certain times of the year seem better there than others. Good luck.
