new fly zone regs on supplemental weight

Does anyone know the status of the proposed regulation changes concerning weights that would apply to the SR upper and lower fly zones (Paragraph 10.2) ?

The new rule would prohibit the use supplemental weight such that the weight is the primary means of propelling the cast rather than the fly line or shooting head;

    I don't know if you've already found the answer but there was a change in the regulations that takes affect for the fly zones on the Salmon River where no added weight to the line can be used... but, the regulation only applies for the spring/summer season. Something like mid April till mid August. So,looks like you can still C&D for salmon and steel but not for Atlantics or Skams.

    Additional Weight: Between August 15 and April 30 of the following year, the maximum distance between the artificial fly and any added weight to the line, leader or tippet shall not exceed four feet. Between May 1 and August 15, no supplemental weight shall be placed on the leader, tippet or fly line. At any time during the year, weight shall not be added to the line, leader, swivels or artificial fly in any manner such that the weight hangs lower than the attached fly when the line or leader is suspended vertically from the rod.
      Straight from the dec web sight.

    I did find the answer, after a call to Whitaker's and from a new posting on the NY DEC webpage  http://www.dec.ny.gov/regulations/45886.html
    here is the story:

    The following are no longer permitted in the Salmon River Fly only zones [Paragraphs 10.2 (g) 4-7](4) use a weighted fly with more than a one-eighth ounce added weight; (5) add weight to the line, leader, swivels or artificial fly in any manner such that the weight hangs lower than the attached fly when the line or leader is suspended vertically from the rod; (6) use less than 20 feet of floating, sinking, or combination floating/sinking flyline, or shooting head immediately behind the leader and in front of any running line or other backing; (7) use supplemental weight such that the weight is the primary means of propelling the cast rather than the fly line or shooting head;
    These were approved September 10 and will take effect on Oct. 1.  They will apply to the lower and upper flyfishing zones of the Salmon River.  The effect of #7 will be to effectively outlaw "chuck and duck" fishing, where the weight provides the casting impetus.
