caught them before, along with lots of blue gill. my kicker 2 years ago at the big falls in ohio pyle was something that looked like a warmouth. if it wasnt it was very similar.

Here's a lovely littel warmouth. Seem to be a very agressive fish - got this one on a 5" Fluke ! This was in Erie at the start of the lagoons (early april). Deep in the mud.

I thought you might have seen an "allegheny whitefish" I have seen quite a few of those this year in the river. My buddies dog dove off the dock after one the other day... Thank god she didn't grab it.....

Now my dumb question ! What in the heck is an "Allegheny whitefish" ? I must either never have heard of it or I'm just really naive ? I get the feeling it's an inside joke ?

that's an easy one 222.  it's smelly, brown, and usually floats (depending on diet).  most people flush em down the toilet.

To tell you the truth.....I'm not sure. It was no ordianary rock bass, though it has a similar mouth. Had all the markings of a pumpkinseed - down to the bluegill spot on the ear. I caught similar fish down in NC, but they refered to them a "Shellcrackers". I have also caught a lot of these in the Conneaut Lake marsh which a guy refered to them a "Googly Eyes". I have always assumed they were Warmouth ? Does anyone else know ?????

I have heard of a "coney island whitefish" , but never the Allegheny breed. We actually have that species in Meadville too....Saw one in French creek. Them little buggers sure get around (or someone does ? ).

That does look like a shellcracker, just kind of missing the red "ear" (real name is redeared sunfish)

    These are definitely Shellcrackers.
