My First (Ever) Trip to the Lake

Last weekend, myself and a friend took a weekend road trip up to Erie to familiarize ourselves with the area and to do a little fishing.  We didnt catch anything, but we DID see some steel up close and personal (one almost bumped into my foot when I first saw it), which made the weekend for us.  Found a few campgrounds, restaurants, and bait shops (FishUSA, BAC, and Poor Richards), as well as figuring out how to get to some of these places.

We ran out of time before we had a chance to head over to the east side tribs, but it's definitely on the to-do list soon.

Unfortunately, after such a great weekend, I managed to lose my wallet when it fell out of my pocket or off the seat when we stopped for coffee just before returning home.  I actually didn't realize it was gone until I got a call from home.  Luckily for me, it had been found by two really nice guys, a father and son, who quickly mailed it back to me.  Got it back yesterday, in the same condition I lost it.  So a big thanks goes out to those guys!  I owe them big time.

Also, I wanted to thank you guys on here who got me interested in steelheading in the first place (and my buddy, indirectly, through me talking about it).  Even though we didn't catch anything, we're rarin' to go and cant wait for the colder weather and some rain!

Good job to those who found your wallet! AWESOME!

And it's nice to actually read about somebody who is doing some scouting on his own!
I hope you found some nice water! Good luck this season!

    Cold,
Amen to the self-scouting!   Now you know enough to get on the boards and ask if the fish are up to Rt5 yet.  LOL!  See you soon!.

There was a similar story of a gentleman from Pittsburgh who lost $1000, his drivers license and credit cards in the surf at Ocean City.  A young lady found it and sent it back to him.

Sorry, but this may be somewhat of a derail of your thread. But I have a similiar story regarding wallets....

In 1997 I went to Cabo San Lucas for a sailfishing trip. We took a bus to the lodge and stoped at a small store on the way. My buddy left his wallet on the counter with evrything in it....****s, ID, and about 1000 bucks in cash....

We continue down the road for about 20 minutes when an old VW bug pulls the bus driver over. He walks on to the bus holding my buddy's wallet with not a DIME missing out of it! It was the store owner, too!

1000 bucks in that area would have done a lot for that guy's family! Needless to say he tipped the guy about 300 bucks and we were on our way! Hate to think what would of happend if he never got his wallet back.

Believe it or not, there are plenty of good people still around!
