This years fish

Put some realy nice trout in last week. ( McKean Co.) Everyone should be happy with the size of the fish this year.

There will be days when fishing is better than ones optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

Did it seem the stocking numbers were down compared to last year?

Word on the street is the number of fish being stocked is less, but the size of the
stocked fish is to average 12 or 13 inches.

I have pondered over posting on this thread As I know what I will say is gonna be called bs..I helped stock a few different stream this spring and I did not see an average size bigger than any other year at the places I helped stock. These were both Plesent Gap and Corry fish.I noticed still quite a few fish still in the 7-9 in range and about the normal number of bigger fish 15-20 plus.I was not impressed to say the least. Possibly I just witnessed a few bad batches who knows. but It was no different then I have seen for the last 25 years I have helped stock fish.

SO MANY FISH SO LITTLE TIME.
WHY ARE ALL THE PLACES I HAVE YET 2 FISH SO FAR AWAY?

I didn't help stock trout this Spring, but I have helped in the past a few times.  It is my understanding that the amount of total weigh of the trout being stocked is what its based on.  An example of this in that the last few years the overall size of the trout stocked were small compared to many of the previous years.  This year's stocked trout are supposed to be larger, but I'll bet the overall tonnage is kept the same.  Anybody else know?

changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes....nothing remains quite the same

Basically correct Greg. The hatcheries base capacity by poundage. X percent bigger fish = X percent less fish.

It would be nice if they would stock 6 or 7,000 of those browns into Lake Erie.

I have seen the same thing, but I have mostly help stock the delayed harvest streams. It seems like they always put the hogs in the regular sections of the streams.

I believe that Chuck Murray told us tuesday night, they stock around 35,000 browns in the lake or it's tributaries.

Now if those browns can stay off the stringer, we may get some mixed in with the steel in a year or two...... ahh its nice to dream I guess, unfortunately those fish will probably get a visit from this guy.....

We already do get some. But most that go into the lake, will most likely seek out the more receptive waters of New York. If every brown caught during pellethead season were kept, or every one released, you probabley wouldn't see any significant difference.

Spoon, I would have to disagree.

What makes NY waters more receptive?

We caught some pretty nice trout through the ice from the February stocking on the waterworks ponds on PI this winter.  All the trout we saw caught there were nice, too.  Also caught a few on Lake Pleasant, they looked more like the average sized fish.
