Very nice fish.
Today I lost what I believe was a very large catfish fishing the river. I was trout fishing and hooked into what ultimately ended up being a 35 minute battle in which I hiked probably 50 yards downstream, ending in disappointment of course when the knot connecting my fly to tippet finally gave. Unfortunate, too, because I was just getting in position to beach it...oh well, 5x tippet, I can't really be too disappointed.
I know for certain that it was not a carp because it did roll at the surface once at the end and I got a good enough look to determine it was not a carp, also because of the way it fought...also took me into my backing twice. It looked to be a channel catfish.
I really felt hopeless with my 5wt as the fish continued to peel line off and muscle it's way anywhere it wanted, rod of course **** near folded in half during the battle.
Anyway, just thought I'd share. Again, nice fish. I did not know that Shenango held flatheads...
