A rare and elusive Northern Spotted neematoad Nymph, Very poisonous, and very agressive, Known to take down elephants. I have no idea. Cool Site though.

Looks like the same bug at the farm pond by my house. I'm guessing a flying ant as well.

ORIGINAL: KJH807 i was thinking flying ants... they came on THICK right before sunset It's some kind of flying ant. When they decide to hatch, the times I've seen flying ants, it's ridiculous. Tons of them. They get all in your ears and nose, etc.

Without a scaling reference, I thought it was wasp-sized, but if it is that small, I agree that it's probably some type of flying ant (there are several sub-species). In fact, I was at the mouth of Trout Run this weekend and they were like D-nymph says, all up in my face and ears, and my buddy even got bit by a few. Over 100 were on my car after just 30 minutes of fishing, getting stuck in the condensation on the roof and trunk, and a half-dozen or so even hitched a ride back to our campsite, probably getting in right as we arrived. They were really annoying, but I'm sure they become a trout & bluegill buffet.

Looks like a winged ant to me. Good old mother nature at work...ants form wings to start a new colony.

It's a flying ant. I used to be an exterminator and right about this time every year we used to get frantic calls about them being all over the place. They send out these swarmers to start new colonies.
