Crawlers/Mealies for me.  The water has warmed and lowered considerably.  I pounded the Trout on Sunday 05/13, went over last night thinking the rain may turn them on a bit, and managed only 2 Trout, 1 walleye (and 1 that I'm pretty sure severed my line), and 1 smallie.  I'm afraid that the Trout may be winding down on the lower Yough.

Hey... I posted on the Smithon website that I caught a 10" Bow that had a tag in the corner of its mouth, and the Tag # was 354.  I looked on Smithtons site, and it's not one of their tags.  Any of you know what club it may be from ?  No matter since I tossed the fish back, just curious.

Ya, the fish either swam a good piece up, or a good piece down the river.  I got it right at the bridge in Smithton.  Is it Star Junction that stocks the Whitsett area ?  Isn't there a Perry Sportsman also ?   I give my donation to the Smithton club since that's all I ever fish.

Since we're on the subject.  Is there an area that holds deeper runs when the water gets low like it is ?  Smithton pretty much dries out.  Is Wickhaven, Whitsett, Layton any deeper ?

I'll teach you the secret of the powerbait and also promise to not beat you too bad on the golf course. If your technique with the Hus Lure proves effective, I may even throw in a bottle of Crown on the golf course.  My bid has been placed....it is your decision!

Golf? I was on the course waiting for you at 9 AM and you never showed! The Crip warned me about you not showing up! Had a fresh bottle of Beam and some nice handrolled cigars....and no Mike, so I went to the river instead to enjoy those fine cigars and sip some Beam. I will show you my Hus lure technique but you got to sign a non-disclosure agreement first....

I've heard a good bit of debate over the years regarding the survivability of Trout in the lower Yough once the water warms past a certain point.  What's your opinion on Trout carrying over in the lower areas ?  I understand there will be a certain amount of mortality, but how bad is it ?  I hate snakes , so I quit fishing streams when the water warms too much, so i really don't know.

Been debating that for awhile.  I know people who catch them again in the fall.  I have not but there is water deep enough to hold them in the summer.  I have seen the goldens swimming around smithton year round.  As far as deep water in the yough.  Go down from the smithton bridge.  Around the bend and under the route 70 bridge.

Fished the Yough on Sat. afternoon for a couple hours.  Launched at Boston and ran up river about 1.5 miles according to the GPS.  Caught a few smallmouth, a few white bass and lots of rock bass.  Just bounced an 1/8 oz jig with half a crawler along the shoreline.  Anyone ever do any good for walleye in this stretch?   There are some deeper holes and was just wondering.  I did try trolling but only for 15 or 20 min. before I left with a plug and a harness but never had a hit.

Anyone with experience in this stretch or other areas close by that want to show me the ropes post up.  I have a 14' starcraft with a 15hp and a 55hp bow mount.  I don't get out as much as I like but it would be nice to hit up the river with someone who knows it better than I to maximize the time out.  A couple sheckles towards gas and/or bait is appreciated but not needed.

    Eyes,
Up river a couple of miles from Boston the best walleye fishing is up at Buena Vista near the little island on the opposite of the river. I used to catch alot of nice eyes there. That little island got a nickname of Copperhead Island, as for some unknown reason alot of Copperheads mate there, so be careful.

No secret. I met you in the parking area at Eureka a couple Mondays ago. I was on my way out and you just got there. I had been fishing with Pete from Washington. You were telling me about the kid's day at Whitsett. I asked you if you had any buttons but you didn't. I told you to tell George and George that Denis said hi.

I'll jump into the hus lure fray, since I've been trying to catch a fish in the yough on a hus-lure, (and something the locals call "wood"... a Rainbow Trout Rapala), for about 15 years now.

1 years supply of hus lures (that should be about 3 for an accomplished fisherman), and 5 cases of Stoney's or Esquire.  If it gets too nasty, I can call a friend in Havana for the smoke.

Ok, Ok, I will give up the ghost and you can all pay me when you see me on the river or golf course that has lakes to fish on them, I do not golf where I cannot fish!

I will confess that PghMarty gave me the tip last year and it has worked wonders not only for trout on the Yough, but wallyes and sauger and now to think of it, I have caught all the species of fish in the Yough on this Hus lure.

Take either gold or silver Hus lure, remove the prism tape on it, and replace the tape with Black Prism tape on the top side and solid black tape on the bottom! I cover the entire side with the tape and leave the edges exposed.
I have down this with both gold and silver in the 1/4 and 1/2 oz. size and have caught must bigger fish! It is very hard for me to go back and through any other color now.

You can find the tape on eBay, I had checked with Gander Mountain and Cabela's and they didn't have Black in stock.

The big palamino trout just love this Hus.

I will be waiting to hear of your catches using this combo.
