confluence

Was planning on making a camping trip for a couple days.  Wanted to know if anyone was doing any good.

The fishing at Confluence is slow right now. I could make the assumption that the reason it is slow is because it has not been stocked in a while. However, I do not believe that is totally true. I fished confluence the entire Memorial Day weekend and saw very few fish landed. It has been fished harder than any year that I can remember. Hopefully after the next stocking and some decreased pressure, the fishing will pick back up.

Landed 11 on Memorial Day, including a nice palimino about 20" and one brown about 18". Others were average. Few others lost. Ramcat area and down.

They cut back on the amount of stockings this year, and yes, the pressure at least when I've been there has been extreme.   More people seem to be keeping the fish now than in the past.  Water right now is quite low.  It's a shame that for as cold as that water stays year round, they aren't keeping the number of fish in it.  It really is a nice fishery.  You may have a better time in the lake.  They're saying the smallies are hitting well there.

I agree completely with the statement that it seems that more people are keeping fish. I dont remember any one year that I have seen so many fish on stringers in confluence. With the decreased number of fish being stocked and the increased number of fishermen, it is making for some tough fishing.

We fished the outflow Friday night and Saturday morning with limited success. Mid-day Saturday through Monday, there was no shortage of fish being caught down river of the outflow. We set up in some pretty fast water with the center pins and landed plenty of fish over the 18" mark. Including a 20.5" Tiger, 22 " Palamino, 2 browns and 3 rainbows pushing the 2' mark. The good news is that everyone of them went back into the water to make for some good fishing this weekend.

Additionally, we really got into some nice smallies just above the mouth of the Castleman.

The only problem now is I spend more of my time dodging rafts than I do watching the float.
