                                Entry List Closed

Gentlemen,
It gives me great pleasure to announce that the 4th Annual "One Fly" will be held, as promised!
The "One Fly" will take place on October 11th starting at 08:00 (8am).
The Place:  Will be Girard  Boro Park Pavillion.  In Girard, PA.  I'm sure somebody can post a map  (Skip?)
The Time:  This is a sticker.  Due to a possible conflict with the PSA Big Run Banquet we have moved the "One Fly" to an earlier time and an earlier ending time so those who want to can leave the "One Fly" and go to the Big Run Banquet for supper. Also it will allow people on a limited budget to only make one trip to the tribs. SO:  Check-in will be 0730 -0900 On the 11th, fish from 0900-1300 (1 pm)  lunch and prizes from 1-2 pm.
Basic Rules:   THERE IS NO ENTRY FEE ! ! !  All fishing must be done on public waters so everyone has an equal chance.  You get ONE FLY, of your choice.  You supply the fly, (+1) and we will record it.   All waters of the Erie area are open for the contest.
The object of the contest is to see how many fish you can catch in the alloted time using only One Fly!  If you loose your fly you are out of the competition.  But! if you are able to recover your fly you may re-tie and continue.  No re-rigging allowed. If you break off three feet of tippett you have the choice of either joining the broken strands or re-tying to the leader.  All competitors should bring an extra fly of the same type they are fishing to be put in a fly box at the sign-in as a consolation prize for the "1st Out".  ( No fair breaking off in the parking lot!  LOL)  Keep track of when you break off!
We will fish in two man teams, usually decided by blind draw.  However if a fisherman has a significant other or a minor child (under 16) that they would like to partner with then they can form a team.  I am excluding myself from the competition so if there are any beginners I will take two of then as a team and do my best to help them catch fish.  Some other of the good and valued attendees may do this also.
Since there are two man teams, if a person breaks off they will be allowed to continue to fish "Out of Competition" to help their partner.  Remember there are team prizes.  Team members will verify the catch and length of each others' fish.  Hopefully all people will practice C&R but fish may be kept.  A caught fish is considered one that is brought "to hand" or to net then measured and released.
You may use any rod/reel combo you wish but it is a Fly Fishing contest.  Flies may be fished from a noodle or spinning rod at the judges discretion.  (see no jigs rule)
All flies must be presented to the judges (myself and Bughawk) before being used.  We may mark the flies for identification.  No spinners, no live bait, no powerbait.  No Jigs.
Scoring will be as follows 1 point for every inch of steelhead caught, by .25 of an inch.  ie: a 25.6 in fish scores 25.5 points.  Brown trout are double points and all other species are .25 points per inch so if you can catch 200 inches of carp you are in the game.
Prizes will be posted as they arrive but it is definate that:
1st Prize: an fully restored antique bamboo fly rod and period correct reel.
2d prize:  An antique fiberglass rod and period correct automatic reel.   (this has come to be known as the "Worm Waster" prize).  This year it will be an original Shakespeare wonderrod and reel.
1st Place team:  fly box with 30-40 flies (each)
Biggest fish:  Fly box with 30-40 flies (unless this also happens to be a team prize and then it will move down to the next person.
1st Out:  1 fly from each of the other competitors.
I am also going to try to arrange for a junior and ladies prize package like last year.
Also, all competitors will get a free "memorial" fly tied by a new fly tyer!
All decisions of the judges are "final".

The purpose of the "One Fly" is to provide a rendevous of a sort for the steelhead fly fishermen; similiar to the Oil Creek outing in the spring.  It is free because I detest the attempts to commercialize and charge for fishing on the tribs as do my friends.  Everyone is welcome even guides and their clients but:  there can be no charge for the One Fly.
Now, as with every year I am open to suggestions on ways to make the event more enjoyable.  Some added information:  Skip has volunteered to do the cooking so if you wish to bring some burgers or dogs please feel free to do so, just let us know so there isn't a shortage or overage.  We will be providing free sodas, hotdogs and chips.  If you want to bring any other foodstuff please feel free, this is for the fly fisherman, and I encourage any and all participation that will enhance the event.
If any body wants to contribute any prizes to be given away, once again, I encourage you to do so, and it is deeply appreciated.  And recognition will be given to any who desire it or to advertise their business.  Each year we have had various fly tyers and rod builders donate items and last year EVERYONE who attended left with something.  Which I have to THANK ALL OF YOU for making happen.
I would recommend bringing a digital camera and a pencil/pen to record all catches.  And if the generosity of the people attending is on a par with last year;  bring an appetite.
If you wish to attend then list your name on a reply.  If you will bring food then list that also.  If you wish to contribute to the prizes then you may either list them or contact me at:  hemilovr@hotmail.com.  As usual I/we are open to any suggestions.  I will have some extra rigs if you are a beginner.  Hope to see you there.

NEW INFORMATION ! !   I have arranged with THE GREEN ROOF INN, just outside of Girard to provide a discount to any "One Fly" visitors for the weekend.  Call: 814-774-7072 !  Visit their website listed on the "places to stay" links.  I am also recommending  CROWLEYS RESTURANT, next door the the Green Roof as the place to eat during your stay.  Just mention that you are there for the "One Fly".

MORE NEW INFORMATION:   Gentlemen; if you are planning on attending I really need to add your name to the list because we have to limit this to 50-60 people due to area constraints.  We now have 50 names with 7 more posible so the allowable # is filling up fast.

STILL MORE BETTER NEW INFORMATION:  Pxatim is trying to organize a Night Before the One Fly get together at Crowleys Resturant on Friday night.  If you are interested just go to his posting and sign up.  Looks like a GREAT time to meet and greet and maybe get a team together.

    D nymph,
Wow, didn't take you long to respond.   Basically, we have determined that a lead head lure with an upturned shank end (jig end) will be considered a jig.  a tied on weight like a cone head or dumbell eyes should be a "fly".  Bughawk, myself and Skip will probably be determining the "flyness".  I get this question every year.   If you have doubts - -  bring a back-up, or two.  The amazing thing is that you would expect to see many egg/suckerspawn type flies but they actually make up less than 20% of the flies used.

Yea, I was online, when I should be working.  heh heh.

I figured that your definition of the jig was something similar, just wanted to make sure, before I got to tying some with extra reinforecment, since we can't change flies.  Don't want em to fall apart.

    Gentlemen,
You're all in and all food will be greatly appcre.. apreci...aperica.... EATEN!    And yes new board members and non-board members can join in.  The object is to promote the tribs in a positive, open, way.  I've had so much good information passed my way and I've met so many new people that this is my way of "giving back"  and we all have fun doing it.

No need for the picnic afterwards, just drive over to shades beach to the PSA big run banquet. $10 I believe gets you in. Pig roast and beer.

I would love to go.  If anyone is willing to ride with me/drive from the State College area I will definately be in.  It is just too long and too expensive of a drive for me to go solo.  So anyone interested please let me know.

    Essox, Kildeer, pxatim, and Rapala11,
We'll be waiting to see you.   Rapala if there is good flow there may be some steel right behind the pavillion and if you can't go far I'm sure the other guys will let you have a section of the creek.  And all the help will definately be appreciated.   Kildeer, you need to be careful with that beginners luck thing she just might win.

Good... She can win the best team and best female.. ;-) actually, the 2 other times I've had her up there for steel she's struck out (and that was with bait)... so any fish would be a bonus for her.

    Mikastorm,
That little man waving the stick is beginning to haunt my sleep. For some reason it reminds me of a "maritime Chuckie" or worse...The fact that he appears to walk on water and is a lefty makes it worse. Is he a "fisher of men" or is he as evil as he appears??? Oh, I will bust my hump to attend the one fly this year. It seems like a great way to meey you all. And please leave the Chuckie doll avitar looking dude at home or I will bring Mrs. Beasly or Dapper Dan to kick his evil****..

Dude I happen to have a Mrs Beasley doll here  I bought for my wife a couple of years ago.....  I doubt she would let her out of her case for Battle though  LOL
