I fished the mouth of Crooked Creek last weekend for an evening shift.  I spent 5 hours throwing jerkbaits and bucktails for muskies.  I came up empty handed.  I really enjoyed all the pleasure boats and jet-skis that felt it was necessary to go as fast as possible by me making sure they were less than 20 feet away.  A few of those skiers were very tempting targets for a launching a 10" bucktail at....

Yeah thats what it come down to.  I fish this very section of river the mouth and weedbeds and you wouldn't believe what people will do.  The other night i was out fishing a rock hump for musky and a boat comes flying by no more than 40 feet.  Mind you i was 200 yards off the channel of the river.  I average 4 or more days a week out here and have been plugging hard since the end of july.  Got one saturday morning and it was the first of the year landed.  Lost 2 more both on figure 8 and just watching them slam baits that close was awesome.  Nobody i talked to has done great by anyones standards with musky down here this year.

Honestly i have been hooking into some muskie while fishing for smallies throwing 4in worms on spot remover jigheads from the kittanning dam down to the first bridge on the river channel and the pleasure boaters are making it hard to fish out there

Hello- not looking to be spoon fed, but wondering if one can park on the upriver side of the mouth of CC and cross the RR bridge (or is that now a bike path?) to fish on the downriver side. I assume that Ross Is. is not wadeable.
    Any other info gladely accepted.
    Thanks.

Ross Island is the island out front of cc.  You can walk across the railroad bridge and fish anywhere along the river.  The creek is all privately owned houses and camps so you would need to fish from a boat to fish the creek.

Ross island is the island straight off the mouth of the creek.  You can walk across the railroad bridge and fish anywhere along the river.  The creek front is all privately owned with houses and camps so you would have to fish from a boat.  You can also access the trail from logansport or kelly station.  I see people driving along the trail all the time so the gates must be open.

This has been a decent year for bass averaging 5 to 8 fish in a couple hours of fishing.  Last year was by far better w size and numbers.  Musky have been at all time slow for me and the other guys fishing this pool.  The amount of baitfish is at an all time high, which is good for the fish not so great for the fisherman.  The water has been super low all summer and this makes the fish stale w no current or water changing conditions they are not forced to have to move around or work for food.  Also this is as clear as i can remember the river in august in the last however many years.  With all the white suckers, buffalo and carp and the unreal amount of mooneyes there is plenty of big fish forage.  Water is still fluctuating from 73 to over 75 which is far from optimum conditions for smallies.  Most of my big smallies came after the water went below 65 the whole way til it hit 50 in november.  What have you been throwing for bass pin drifter???

Well lets see went out at 10 pm wed night fished till Thursday morning and NOTHING I REPEAT NOTHING, not a bite not a run not a nibble. I was using cut bait and gills. I know i can fish since i bought my tracker i have been keeping a log. Of water temps, location, barometric pressures, baits, Graff's on the Dept finder, etc I'll figure it out sooner or later. I know them big Flatheads are their. I lost a huge muskie a day this  week on a buzz bait fishing for bass down at rosston ate 10lb suffix like it was candy. I seen him jump all i can say is dam. I don't know how much more time I'll have on the river with steelhead coming and archery. I hope I'll get my buck Early like every year. Probably why i never shoot a trophy class can't hold out on the big one knowing  all those steel are in the tribs. Once that happens **** on the river i have all summer to****with that. Steel is more fun for me.  I have been throwing tube jigs watermelon and pumpkin seed. My big bass last week came of the k town island on a 4 inch pumpkin.  You been hitting anything.

Dont forget to keep track of the moonphase i've found this the as important as water temp.  Bass have been decent when i put the musky gear down.  But haven't raised one in 2 weeks which is probably 6 to 7 nights of plugging 2.5 hours.  I saw you pulling the boat out at rosston last wednesday in the rain.  I was pluggin the weeds before dark on my way back in.  As far as the cats idk nobody i been talkin fishing with has been fishing for them.  Did hear rumor of a 43lb flathead caught above templeton somewhere but didn't get a complete story but it was sometime earlier this summer.  That river is tough to completely figure out.  I know in my 15 years of fishing it heavy from a boat i've seen better years.  Ask any of the guys who fish tournaments on it, its humbled a good many of them.

Indeed was a monster of a fish the biggest smallie i have ever seen and i do alot of fishing. took a freaking mepps giant muskie killer buck tail believe that one. And my buddy wasn't even fishing bass was fishing skies. Go figure i guess stranger things has happened. my other buddy caught 2 smallies in one day last fall on the allegheny rive one was 6 1/2 pounds  the other was 8 right on the money.
