Musky???

Anyone having the off year I am?  I've had 5 follows all season and no fish boated.  I'm by no means a 100% musky fisherman, probably 1 or 2 times a week i'll spend plugging the local river for them.  In the 30+ hours of fishing i figure 5 follows is good but not great, i've caught one big walleye and one nice pike and thats the extent of it.  Just curious how the conditons this year are for everyone else?

    Troll my man!

I've boated 25, fish this summer, and it's been about 44  hours on the water.
I can't catch a bass to save my life though for some reason

O yeah, i could probably go all season without catching one and would keep coming back for more!  The thrill of the chase is enough to keep me motivated!

I caught one casting for bass, and another trolling for eyes. When i pull out my big gear, i got one smaller one that threw the lure 30 feet in to the fight. It has been tough year for me but ill keep at it. good luck

25 muskies in 40 hours???  You should be fishing the PMTT Pro Muskie Tour dude!!!

On an average muskie fishing day, I'll put in about 8 hours.  40 hours roughly equals about 5 days, give or take a few.  You're pretty much saying that you have caught roughly 5 muskies per day.  Thats pretty **** good according to anyone's standards.  Like I said, you should either be running a muskie guide service or fishing the PMTT.  With odds like that, you couldn't be beat!

Laugh all ya want man, It's the place I fish. I fish one lake. I don't catch 40 pounders but I've pulled in 40 inchers. I've caught them from the smallest 25 inches to a 44 incher earlier this year.

I've had nights where we've caught over 5. 2 nights in early june my fishing buddy and I caught 7.

Last night we were out for 4 hours and caught none.

We troll, rarely cast. I've caught 1 casting in my entire life.

Only brought in one this year . That Was two sundays ago on the clarion river an 8lber on 6lb test ( 38 inches long ) . It ate through both my line and then my buddies using rubber woorms on the first two casts into the hole so i speed tied a bomber long A on and the poor fish missed the line & ate the plug . pretty neat experience . I lost a bunch @ lake arthur this year ; they just mangle my gear when i'm wiper fishing.

No offense Deadbolt, but I'd still be willing to bet that you've put in more than 40 hours to catch your 25 at the lake you speak of.  Which I know very well.  I certainly believe that you have caught 25 fish out of this lake for sure.  However, in 40 hours of fishing, you would have caught a fish every hour and a half.  Those numbers are certainly more unlikey...not impossible, but unlikely.  If factual, as you say, you are definitely doing something right is all I'm trying to say.  Cuddos to you!

I have got 20 this year, but i have put way more time in than 40 hrs.  I have had bad stretches and a couple good days.  Took my dad out last weekend and we got 5 in an hour ( and it wasnt at that lake ).

Well i 25 in 40 hours is real real good fishing.  I've put 60 hours in now for 1 fish landed.  I do no live bait fishing and fish the allegheny river so no tigers in the mix.  I have hooked a few more on figure 8s but lost them.  Its been a tough year for the river i've had at most a dozen fish up this summer and most were on topwaters.  I average seeing a fish every 6 to 8 hours and i consider that a victory in itself.  Not much trolling either cause i get mega bored real real quick.  I do it on occassion when there are guys fishing my milk run of spots.  Maybe my stubborness not to troll is costing me some..

Shut, I have fished this lake consistantly for 5 years, I know most spots, and only troll in 3 runs across the lake. So yes, overall I've put in the hours, but This summer has been buisness when I go there.

When I fish for muskies, it is always business.  I have been doing it now for nearly 20 years.  Its one of the very reasons my wife WILL NOT muskie fish with me anymore. Name a PA lake, and I've probably fished it for muskies.  I am certainly not debating the number of fish you have caught this year, by any means, and believe you in that regard.  However, you have already marred your credibility by changing the hours from 40 to 44.  Even in 44 hours, you are still talking about catching one muskie per hour and a half of fishing.  I'll be honest, I do consider myself a seasoned muskie fisherman, and I believe I have the right to after catching and recording well over 500 muskies to date.  I simply find it hard to believe catching 25 muskies anywhere in PA in around 40 hours time.  If you did it, God bless you and savor the moments because it does not happen often.  These days, I do not put the time into them as I used to simply because I have ventured into many other directions, especially for my family.  But I know Tamarack, I knew it when the muskie fishing was even better and more versitile.  The weeds were beautiful....like those of Canadian waters with the sparce cabbage weeds and muskie weeds.  You won't find that at Tamarack hese days.  I miss those days.

Haha, marred my credibility. I'm taking this as a joke, but to clear it up, I posted right below that we got skunked in 4 hours, so i took the liberty to edit my post, making sure there's no mixups. Notice the smiley Face.

I won't fish tamarack again till late october, Steelhead first. Then the lunge.
