Allegheny Res.

Fished the lake for the last  four days . Caught pike up to 28" some smallmouth, and also walleye . the lake is starting to clear up nice. Still warming up walleyes just starting to move a little shallower.  17" to 25" foot seemed to be the ticket and all walleye were between 14" to 14 3/4" none in the frying pan.

Never caught a legal walleye at Kinzua.  Lots of them 13-14-3/4" though.  Anyone have any idea why this is ?

I have caught one legal walleye downstream from the dam, but I always catch 13-14 inches at the dam.  The only legal walleye I caught was 28 inch.

kinzua allegheny walleye association tourney was on 5/19-5/20 but didnt hear any results. info on kinzua is EXTREMELY tight lipped. must be some kind of cult up there that castrates a fella if they give out too much info. not saying it's wrong, as they want to protect their resource and not have a Steelhead Alley problem. just hard to believe info always has been and still is so tight lipped.

I've been going up their every summer for the past 7 years once or twice a year to camp. I have never really caught anything worth while. Granted I do not fish from a boat and mainly use night crawlers, but still never caught anything worth while or seen except for a 24" northern my wife caught, other than that it has been sub legal walleyes, small smallmouths, carp, and hundreds of rock bass. I just think the lake is very hard to fish for anyone yeh you maybe able to catch fish below the dam but in the lake I believe it is very hard to fish for anyone. The reasons people are tight lipped may be because they actually aren't catching many, it really wouldn't surprise me

There are guys that get them but they work really specific structure and they don't share anything, especially on this board.  The action can definitely be pretty decenct up north on the reservation and at times in other, more southerly locations...but I just have never found it to be a very consistently productive walleye lake.  I think they should put stripers in it and be done. Don't know if this would help or not but go to the Kinzua Fish & Wildlife Associations web site, www.kfwa.org. They do a great deal of structure work on the dam.  For a very reasonable membership charge they will provide you with a map and GPS readings of all the structures and the type of structure, they have put in the dam. I've seen this information and for what they charge for a membership it is well worth the price .

There will be days when fishing is better than ones optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.

I'm not sure what happened but I can't open their home page again. (Kinzua Fish & Wild Life Association) I opened it before and saved it as one of my favorites anyway if you can contact them they have a wealth of information on the types of structures and their placements.

Fished the res. last weekend. My fishing buddy was my 12 year old neice. Some smallmouth & rockbass on ultra light gear , but we mostly caught just short walleye. about 30 of them . some folks were getting walleye up to 27" trolling the main lake . I was in the kinzua arm fishing large boulders in 8' - 31' of water. nightcrawler and gulp worms. wacky rigged.

Short eyes are males which tend to hang around the reservation after females head to deepwater to chase schools of suspended spottail shiners.  Troll silver shad raps on shady side of reservoir early.  Best results with in line planer boards, segmented lead core or snap weights.  Will get some pike same way.  If you are getting short walleyese give up on program and move, they don't mix with the bigger ones.  Deep jigging on points in main lake in summer can also yield eyes but is tough to do with boat traffic.  Weekends are always going to be tough on Kinzua.
