Shenango River 5/7/07

I'd planned on fishing the river after work today after calling and learning that they closed three gates and left the remaining at one foot each, which is what it was at on opening day and a very good level to fish. Got there at 5:30 to learn that they closed two more leaving two gates open to one foot each...absolutely perfect fishing conditions on the Shenango River and those days are very few and far between.

I stopped counting after 16 but caught probably 22 or 23 trout from 5:30 until 8:30 this evening...not a bad few hours. Most were caught on single white sucker spawn with a few coming on a black bugger and flashback hares eare. All fish were released to fight another day (which given the pressure probably won't be too long).

A few pictures from todays action...

Fished it again this evening with much different results. Caught six and missed/broke off probably four or five others in two and a half hours fishing.
