Clarion River --another 1st for me

What a great day...

I'm having all kinds of trouble getting photos here BUT could not wait to share the news....

Fished from 4 to 6pm... The second cast of THE DAY..
with that "trout magnet spinnerbiat" paid off...

I could not believe my eyes when I saw what hit the thing....

A 17.5 inch WALLEYE.....

only the second walleye I have ever caught from the Clarion...

and the 1st that was legal..

it's been 20 years since I ate Walleye...

CAN'T WAIT....

I'll post photos ASAP....
Here they are...

In response to a couple private messages and some E-mails about where I was fishing.....

I have spent 8 years on the internet and with my own webpages and have always been willing to give info and "hot spots" to anyone that would ask... even answered many E-maills from guys planning trips to this area..

As for where this "eye" came from....

    I'll be this honest....

NEAR HALLTON ... and I know that's hard to believe but it's true.....
the walleye was upstream that far .... another sign the Clarion is still one HECK of a fishery.... and getting better year after year... and still "under-fished" by anglers...  :) :) :)

I have not fished 10% of the area from Portland MIlls to Belltown  yet... so I still have years of grerat fishing ahead...

Found this photo from 2006 of the only other walleye I ever caught on the Clarion..... This one was in the EXACT same spot as the one yesterday...
He was C&R , I wonder if it is the same fish :) :) :)

I can't believe that!! I haven't fished the Clarion for years but used to canoe it every weekend for about 10 years. My parents still have a place on Rt 899 north of Clarington toward Marionville. I have never even heard of anyone catching a walleye up there. Have you ever had any contact with muskies? Is the small mouth fishing as good as it used to be? Man that was sure a beautiful place to be. Your post brought back many memories.

Hi Doc I have been telling your crew about the walleye and tiger muskies for a while. All of mine come from farther down but still not in the deep water. nice fish you will love it.  Bob

Getting ready to put him on the BBQ grill right now.....

Smallmouth fishing is good right now and I enjoy it from April to September...and no I have not seen a muskie or pike yet.. but who knows ??

as for canoeing it.. right now I'd think it would be more pushing than riding... the water level is at August levels right now... hard to find any good water by wading.... and really low for riding in a canoe....

In the book True Tales Of the Clarion one short tale involved pinning a Sturgion against the bank. So maybe you still have a future surprise left Doc. I talked to a fella who catches lots of walleye at Pinny Dam, although most small. However catching one that far up is surprising. I fish the Clarion a lot just above Clarington and haven't caught or seen one caught.

when i built my camp in clarington in 1972
the locals told me that a drop load of walleye
frys was stocked back then, who knows how
many survived the drop but i'm sure some did.
nice dinner doc. i fished all that area since the
early 70's and can't get enough of it still.
