i crossed the clarion this morning on 322 and it looks to be normal level. a worker was down in cooks forest yesterday and said the water was neither high nor muddy. we haven't had much rain up here to do any  harm except make the grass grow. 40% friday, 30% saturday and 40% sunday for rain.

Fished the Clarion River near Portland Mills on Friday before the river started to rise pretty good and get difficult to fish.  The Little Toby looked terrible where it flowed in and looked even worse in Brockway.  I heard that there is an issue with a new acid mine drainage leak into the creek and I am really concerned about the impact it is having on the creek and possibly the Clarion near where it flows in.  Saturday morning we fished Rattlesnake Creek for a while and caught a few.  In the evening, we decide to go and try the catch and release section of the Clarion below Johnsonburg.  The river wasn't in too bad of shape but just as we got started to fish, a big storm moved in.  I have never fished the catch and release section before but would like to get back there and give it a try again in the future.

Toby is still producing limits of trout  -  inspite of the color, bridge work, and the mine collapse.

Clarion is now MUDDY & HIGH after "all day" rains today (Sunday)..  I hope to get over there on Tuesday.. tommorrow will be a wash-out....

I hope to be getting back up there and hitting the Clarion and/or Little Toby this coming Sunday afternoon and next Monday.

Glad to hear that Little Toby is still healthy enough to hold fish.

    Dr. Trout,

Are the fish from the Heath Pump hatchery generally stocked near Belltown?

What is the organization that raises those fish and stocks them?  I would like to donate some money to their efforts seeing that I am sure some of the trout I enjoy catching out of the river come from them.

    Thanks.

    Dr. Trout,
I have heard that there is a big trout tourney this weekend sponsored by the club.  Do you have any info on that?  I would also like to join the club so I was wondering if you can join at the hatchery.  By the way great site you have there Dr. Trout.  Thanks.

    Thanks guys...

    Here's what I know....

I HAVE HEARD RUMORS of a big trout thing this week-end... I was at the hatchery yesterday (Tues) and there is NOTHING posted there about a contest.. NOR has anyone given me any information about such a contest...

I'm not even sure if that type of trout tournamment is legal ???????

The big trout in the pond at the hatchery are GONE and smaller ones are in there now.. next years' big ones...all the small trout in the runways are gone and there are a few BIG palaminos left in a couple of the sections..probably to put in the pump sttion pond for kids Sat - Mon...

They start putting the hatchery fish across from the hatchery by the large parking lot and IF volunteers are there they float stock down just past Belltown..

GOOD LUCK.... I'm headed over there in the morinng with my leeches :) :) :)

Dr. Trout great info you have.  I used to fish over that way all the time some years back.  I have never found out any info on them.  I would like to.  If you ever find anything out please post.  I would join in a heart beat.  I might make it there early Sat.  If not I will be over later and let my son fish the pond.  Are there fish in it?  Its a drive but I think I wiil make it.

Fished both the Clarion River and Little Toby Creek this Sunday afternoon and Monday morning.  Caught 5 trout on the Clarion Sunday afternoon including 3 or 4 rainbows in the 13-14" range.  Also caught 4 trout and 1 smallmouth on the Little Toby.  The water on Toby looked totally fine, much improved over last weekend.  Right now, it looks no different than it did in previous years.

This morning fished the Clarion again and caught 8 trout.  Again several rainbows in the 13-14" range and a handful of nice brookies.

    Water conditions were perfect.
