Bow brand opinions

Does anyone shoot either a Ross CR334 or a Bowtech Allegience?  Both?  Opinions, good or bad?  I'd be using it strictly for hunting.  I haven't narrowed my search down to these two, but I like both (only seeing them in a catalog) and wondered if anyone had any experience with either.

I dont have exact details for you but those bowtechs are saposively hard to beat. I think that bow shoots well over 300fps.

I own a bowtech and I can say for sure that they are a great bow. They definately dont cut any corners on any of their bows. On the other hand, i've heard very good things about ross bows. Hopefully, you'll get to shoot both before making a decision.

Well, it's tough to shoot for two reasons, first, there aren't many shops around me, and second, I'm left handed.  So, I haven't shot anywhere.  I hate to buy a bow having never shot it, but I may have little choice.  Speed is only the third most important thing on my list of desirable qualities behind forgiveness and quietness.  Anyways, I have time because it will take awhile to save up the currency, no matter what my choice.  I just appreciate the opinions.

Dane .. you are from the pittsburgh area?  I will be out there in three weeks for a few days.  I have a 28.5" draw on an XT.  Forgiveness/quiet/speed gets a 10 out of 10 from me.  Never thought I'd spend that kind of money on a bow, until I shot it.  Price didn't matter after one arrow.

Yeah, I do live east of Pittsburgh.  Also, I've never heard anything bad about a Mathews bow, and haven't really ruled it out.  I'll tell you, there are so few archery shops with a lot in stock around here, that if I knew anything about bow maintenance and repair, I'd open a shop right here.

Dane -- I will be coming out route 22 on Sunday May 20, if you want to shoot it.
Keep in mind, you can find $100 - $200 off of mathews list price .. shop dependant.  At Freedom archery, they are about $95 off.  Lots of bows to choose from out there, hope you find the one for you.

My reports and advice are for everyone to enjoy, not just the paying customers.

It's in East Freedom near Duncansville.  They have an XT and a drenlian LH at 29" for people to shoot.  They've got bowtech's, hoyts, bear, etc.. not sure about left handed.  Give them a call.  They'll put the accessories on for free, such as peep, kisser button.  Not a sight, quiver, rest, though.

I have to say, freedom archery is hard to beat. They really know how to tune a bow. I have stopped in there many times and have never gotten bad advice.

I found a good shop today...Nelsons in Greensburg.  They make arrows there and they have a shop.  I got to hold and draw a left handed drenelin.  Awesome bow!  They had a nice Vectrix and a couple PSE bows with real small limbs.  The one thing I learned is no matter which bow you pick, you cannot go wrong.  There are so many good ones out there right now.

Your right. I havent shot many bows in the past 2 years that I didnt like. Its all about your preference for one over another. Some people like short brace heights, while others like long ones. Some like short axle to axle lengths and others like longer. Some people are preoccupied with speed while others with forgiveness.

I take it you got to shoot a few?

Actually, no.  I held a few and drew a few.  I've had my bow for like 15 years now, so anything I held seemed like space age technology to me.  It's unbelievable, for instance, how light a dren is or how easy it is to draw.

The Vectirx was also sweet and they had a couple nice PSE bows and an Elite.  I'm just blown away by how much bows have improved since I last bought one.  Probably the worst bow they had (and I wouldn't even know what that is) would seem like a huge improvement to me.

if you are willing to drive some, check out shooter's showcase. it's in harlensburg, which is off the slippery rock exit of 79.  great selection, great guys behind the counter too.  i've head good things about phils archery in mckees rocks.  i don't know if they are still there, but i bought my 1st bow at furrer's near vanderbuilt.  they had a great selection and a range to shoot.

I too want to say that Shooter's Showcase is an excellent place. I traveled 40 minutes to go there on a tip from a friend after purchasing a new Hoyt PRo 38 at a local proshop and not having anyluck with my broadheads flying correctly. Glen at Shooters took the time and got it shooting perfectly. Prices were reasonable, service was great, and they have everything you could want in stock. I would drive all that way again in a heartbeat.  Good luck.

I ordered a CR334 from a local, small time shop.  Another joy of being left handed, it will take 6-8 weeks to get here.
