Howard Eaton Resorvior

Have fished this body of water for Pike in the past with my flyrod and have had a good time doing it! Is the Pike bite on and are they in the shallows right now. Any info would greatly appreciated! Thanks

May your fly rod always be bent!

Fished it today. Between the 2 of us we caught 12 largemouths, 2 smallies, 14 pike, and 6 crappies(all between 11&12 inches. Fished from 12 to 6. Had a good day there. Saw a pair of Eagles and an Osprey. Here's a picture of one of the crappies.

It is up by lake erie speed way, a few miles east of it. i would need a map to tell you the road.

question? Is the water level up from last year? I went there last summer and the water was so low the launch ramp was completly out of water. I would like to go there but do not want to drive an hour to find out i can not launch my boat. Thanks

Any size to the pike?  Never fished out there but have been hearing about the pike there for a few years.

no real size to the pike because ther are so many of them.  remember that this body of water is electric motors only.

No just a bunch of stunted hammer handles..18-22 inches. We caught one that you could almost reach your fingers around at mid body it was so skinny. Makes for some big panfish. The numbers are slowly coming down. I used to pound that lake and could boat 30-50 pike in a full day of fishing. Now its done to 20 at best. I think the Eagles and the Osprey are helping a little.I have fished this lake for over 30 years and have only caught two descent pike. Both 35". Awesome little lake to take kids as the hammerhandles are almost always willing to take something.

So is this lake in NY or Pa.  I always go by Erie speedway on way to Holiday Valley skiing.  I was thinking about getting a NY fishing lic.   Opps sorry re-read East of speedway.

Was still thinking of NY lic and maybe for salmon and maybe taking pontoon up to Lake
Chautauqua.  Has anyone fished this lake?

It's actually very close to the PA/NY state line.

The easiest way to access it if you are not familiar with North East is to take Route 426. Route 426 can be accessed off of State Route 89 in the Bororough of North East (also known as South Lake Street). Follow 426 for maybe 3-4 miles, and you will come to a section of the road that is very curvy. On one of those curves, you will see the typical PFBC signs that will say Howard Eaton Reservoir. This is Black Road, , you don't even really have to turn on to it, just go straight instead of following the curve through on 426 and you'll be there within a mile.

Just to clarify, this lake IS in PA, but the East side is 150 yds. or so from the NY line.  As Pixburghscottie mentioned, you can access the West side of the lake from his directions, or keep going on 426 past Family Affair campground and you'll see a "welcome to NY" sign.  Take a right on the dirt road (Stateline Road) BEFORE this sign and your at the East launch or dam side of the lake.  I prefer launching on this side because it is deeper and as summer approaches less weedy.
I have caught quite a few pike from Eaton over 30" over the years, but you'll catch many, many hammerhandles before you catch a larger one...Most of mine have come through the ice...there are muskie in this lake too, just not in any number.
Bingsbaits is also right about this being a great place to take younguns because there is little chance of them getting bored.
This lake doesn't get much pressure because it's electric motor only and it's a rather large lake (roughly the same surface area as findley lake a few miles away).

Thanks, Bings -- still after some bigger toothy fish and just haven't connected yet other than some small pike in PIB.  Still looking for other options...

Hmmm... that is enticing knowing some bruisers are in there.  I may have to give it a shot, thanks Bings.

I live less than 5 minutes from Eaton, I have fished it many times, but never caught much other than stunted gills and a few pike. In a week or so, I'm gonna start throwing plugs at dusk for walleyes. I hear of a few 4-6lb walleyes lurking in these waters. I have a feeling there is a decent walleye population in this lake, but nobody really ever trolls for them due to the summer weeds.

Ill try a few different locations on the lake since it is all accessable by foot.

Anyone fish here recently? I'm thinking of heading out there on Sunday. I used to fish it all the time when I had my boat. I'm on foot now and could use some help as to where the shore fishing is best. I have fished from the little peninsula that sticks out but other than that I'm not sure. I know it gets pretty deep by the dam side but can you actually fish it?

    220, 221. Whatever it takes....
