Boat Slip Price??

Can anyone give me an idea of what a boat slip might cost per month near PI or Walnut for 22-foot boat?  Only would really need freshwater for wash down.

Also, would I need bottom paint?

Thanks, I'm thinking a slip rental may be less than the fuel I'll spend trailering this summer.

They don't really charge by the month but more by the season.  It will run anywhere from 750ish at Presque Isle State Park (there is a waiting list last time I checked) to 1400 at Bay Harbor to 1600 at Perry's landing.  Lampee is around 900-1000 for the year.  Hope this helps.

Fivedog,  I almost forgot.  There is a place you can store the boat for $100 per month.  It is not in a slip but it is behind a high barbed wire fence with a key card access.  I think the port authority runs it.  It is located on Port Access Road (the road you use to go to Lampee Marina).  If I can find the phone number I'll post it for you.  Also, I may be a little high on the slip price at Presque Isle State Park but there is a waiting list so I never pursued it when I was looking for a slip.  I ended up at Bay Harbor.  I choose them because of the protection.  At Presque Isle anyone has access to the slips and I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving things on the boat.  JMO

Best bet is to dry dock your boat at Poor Richards in the back yard for whatever the going rate is.  A boat slip for the seaon is going to run you over $600 (or 170 gallons of gas) easily.  Walnut has no fuel or fresh water to the best of my knowledge...I think the last time I checked they were like $650 a season for the dock....

I think when I looked, Walnut was $850 for the season, but no boats over 23'  (what a bunch of horse$hit!).  Not a big deal for me, I store mine at the inlaws near fairview on 20, but if I couldn't it would be at PR's.

If you are using a trailer style storage or dry rack storage system where the boat is in the water for times less than a week then no, paint is not needed. If you store your boat in a slip and are able to remove and wash the hull each week then no, no paint is needed.

i would check w/ the local marinas as to their recommendations if paint is needed or not in your area for long term storage in the water. Bottom paint is there to help prevent the growth of marine life. It is 100% needed w/ long term storage in salt, fresh is a different animal all together and depends on the marine growth in your area.

If you go about painting the bottom follow the instructions to the letter. At a healthy price per gal. its best not to sort cut. Many times its best to paint the first coat as one color and the top coat as your finish color. This way your be able to see the first layer once the top coat is warn down and gives the indicator it's time to re-coat. Go to the manuf. web sites and do your research before you commit your money to any paint. There are different manuf. and different applications for each style.

CALL ROSSALIE AT THE PORT AUTHORITY PLENTY OF SLIPS OPEN FOR 20FT, AND UP. HER NUMBER IS (814=455=1313). ALSO DRY STORAGE 5MIN. FROM I-79 2MIN.FROM THE BOAT RAMP AND VERY SELDOM HAVE TO DEAL WITH RAMP CONGESTION OR PEOPLE THAT SHOULD NOT OWN A BOAT.

AS FOR BOTTOM PAINT, IF YOU RUN EVERY COUPLE DAYS NO NEED, FISH MORE SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND EXPENSE OF PAINTING . ONCE YOU PAINT THE BOTTOM YOUR PRETTY MUCH COMMITTED TO ADD MORE PAINT EVERY YEAR OR SO. PRESSURE WASH AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE. HULL PAINT JUST DOES NOT SLIDE THROUGH THE WATER LIKE A CLEAN GEL COAT. I HAVE NOT SEEN ANY BOTTOM PAINT THAT COMPLETELY KEEPS SLIME FROM FORMING ON A BOAT.
FORGOT TO MENTION, YOU CAN FUEL UP AT THE BOAT RAMP OR ONE OF THE OTHER AVAILABLE GAS DOCKS IN THE BAY.

For bottom paint, you'll want to do some serious research. You may want to get a barrier coat applied first. And be careful with copper based paints. If you apply them to metallic components (engine bracket for instance), electrolosys can occur.
