smoke hole west virginia

I am going to smoke-hole WV with a few guys on a fishing trip in april.  I never been there. Does anyone have any good info on the area and what streams are good fishing.  We all fly fish so any area would be great .

Thanks

While your there you might as well stop at Senaca Rocks, Dolly Sods and Spruce Knob.  I love that area of the Country.  Here is the Feds info on Smoke Hole Canyon.

My family used to camp down at Yokums when I was a kid. From there we woud head out hiking, rock climbing, and snake finding.

There was very good fishing in the stream that ran through the campground and at the other one behind the visitors center. I remember the water being very clear and cold even in July- August. That was 25 years ago though.

I've not fished there, but hae heard good things about Shavers Fork, and whatever the name is of the Potomac branch that flows by Seneca Rocks.

I have hiked in the area, and there are alot of rattlers.

Stop by Smoke Hole Caverns and ask for Josh, he can point you in a good direction. He is a fishing maniac and would probably take you with him. Ask him to see his private hatchery and your mouth will drop.
Spent quite a bit of time down there in the past, the north fork of the Potomac is good water and the state puts fish in about every week. There is numerous mountain streams in the sods for some great brookie fishing. Shavers and Laurel also have some good fishing. Good luck

We make a couple float trips down that way every year and find this fly fishing site and message board very helpful

Went to Seneca Rocks/Spruce Knob a few years ago and had a great time. Wanted to camp at the lake but with the elevation it was a bit to cold, so we went down to the campground at Seneca Rocks. Beautiful country! And I landed a beautiful 18" Brown right on the campground property, released to fight another day. The sights from to drive up to Spruce Knob are great, Gods Country. Have fun, Glenn.
