reel handles

question; why are spinning reels designed to be reeled with the left hand, while bait and spin casting reels are designed to be reeled with your right? i cast with my right and reel with my right.

already knew that. going through bass pro shops catalog there are about 10 photos of spinning reels in the boat section and they are all being reeled lefthanded. why?? can't be that many people lefthanded.bill dance and all those guys use left handed reels for spinning.

from what i understand the big debate is most peoples cast's are using the right hand. if you cast with your right and reel with your right that means you have to swap the rod to your left hand before you can start reeling in. by using your left to reel you can start reeling right off the bat without switching rod hands.

personally i cast and reel with the right because thats what im most comfotable doing. i suck at left hand lead casting with a baitcaster or spinning reel. the transition from right to left doesnt bother me at all.

I use a baitcaster and had to order a left hand retrieve, i cannot use a right handed retrieve for a baitcaster at all.

catfish threw me an answer, the guy who invented the baitcaster was lefthanded, cast with the left reel, with the right, push buttons followed suit. the guy who invented the spinning reel was right handed, cast with the right, reel with his left. makes sense to me.

I can't cast a spinning rod with my left. Tried it many times, even when I had problems with my right elbo I practiced casting easy with my left hand and had great difficulties.

I cast with the right, reel left with baitcast or spin. Maybe it's because I've been doing that way for the past 55 years. Before that I used a pole that could be used either R/L with ease.......a cane pole with about 6 feet of string.
